WR Jalin Marshall (Edmonton Elks)

Numerous 'analysts' questioning whether Jalin should have come out
reminds me I thought same of Brian Hartline.. but he surprised me big time
Brian Hartline was a 3 year weapon in the passing game without much more upside and would be returning to play with a very raw running qb. That was a Tyvis Powell like decision, obviously with a bit more NFL potential. Nowhere to go but down and possibly way down with the changes to his unit.

Jalin is an athlete who has not been a very steady wideout outside of the trilogy when everyone played out of their minds, complete with pick sixes from journeymen des. He would have returned as the focal point of a gutted passing attack and a young running game that would need him to be a star at wr just to avoid losing more than 2-3 games.

I think his history of high risk-low reward plays will scare some teams away from any consideration. And a bone-headed play in a live game early in his career could end it. I think another year in college would have been smart, but maybe pride got in the way.

I think the problem is what does he do well?
He's strong but doesn't beat the press well.
He's fairly quick but not a burner.
He's good as a return man but very bad at eluding specialists :p
He can make great catches but is undersized.

If he gets the right situation, he could stick for awhile as an inside WR. I just worry that he'll have to pay for this decision for the first few years in terms of his contract.

Jalin Marshall Wants to Quiet the Doubters: 'I Just Want to Prove I Belong Here'

MarshallDivesForBall.jpg

If there was one of the nine players who shocked Buckeye Nation when they elected to declare early for the NFL Draft, it was H-back Jalin Marshall.

It’s not that he didn’t have a good career at Ohio State – he did – but the thought among many was Marshall had at least another year to give to the Scarlet and Gray before he was really ready to make the jump.

“I think I surprised a lot of people, but I know that was expected,” Marshall said Thursday at he NFL Combine.

“I talked it over with my family, my coaches, and came down to the decision that it was time for me to take the next step and that I was prepared enough to be able to play.”

Marshall’s decision comes after two seasons with the Buckeyes where he recorded a total of 74 receptions for less than 1,000 yards and 11 total receiving touchdowns. Those numbers don’t exactly back Marshall’s decision, but he isn’t worried about that.

“It’s just motivation for me to go out there and prove myself this week,” he said of the doubters. “I made it this far, so I don’t know if they had anything to say about that. I made it this far and all I can do is get better from here.”

With eight of his teammates making the same choice, it makes sense that Marshall would consider leaving early for the NFL and once a player starts leaning that way, it can be difficult to return to college.

“I think so because you’re doing things that you probably shouldn’t because you think that you’re already where you want to be,” Marshall said about guys coming back after seriously considering departing. “I don’t know if it would have been any different for me, but I know in the past, the players that I’ve talked to that wanted to leave and had the opportunity to leave and they came back, it was miserable. Them not wanting to go to class and doing the stuff that you have to do but you don’t want to do because you think that you’ve already made it.”
