Vikings: Cris Carter's son, Duron, 'nervous' trying out for dad's old team

Duron Carter dropped the first three passes he saw during the Vikings' rookie camp Friday, May 3. But it was fair to say nerves were at work.
He was, after all, back where "I grew up half my life" and lining up at receiver in the same facility his father had forged a hall of fame career. The fact that the Vikings were bringing in Cris Carter's son for a tryout had garnered plenty of attention, and Duron Carter knew it.
"I was kind of nervous out there. I got back into it; hopefully, I can get more," Duron Carter said. "You can't be Cris Carter. I can only be Duron Carter."
The undrafted free agent will have plenty to prove if he wants to earn a contract from the Vikings. He bounced around to three different schools after catching 13 passes at Ohio State and never played a down at either Alabama or Florida Atlantic.
"He's got great size. I mean, that sticks out," coach Leslie Frazier said of the 6-foot-5 Duron Carter. "He has good hands and moves well. We'll see how he does throughout this weekend. He had a good first practice. We'll see what he does the rest of the weekend."
Duron Carter won?t be a Viking, at this time
Posted by Mike Florio on May 6, 2013
The Vikings didn?t sign receiver Duron Carter last week, and they won?t be signing him this week.
Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the son of former Vikings receiver Cris Carter didn?t do enough on a tryout basis at the team?s rookie minicamp to get the team to offer him a contract.
It doesn?t mean that Duron Carter won?t be signed at a later date; injuries and other unexpected developments could change the team?s plans. For now, though, Carter will be among the bulk of the 34 tryout players who won?t be getting signed.
As Tom Pelissero of 1500ESPN.com has reported, only two of the 34 will be getting roster spots, pending physicals.
Even then, it?s a steep uphill climb. With up to 90 players on the offseason roster and only 53 making the team, up to 37 will be cut between now and Labor Day weekend.
For Duron Carter, the quest to be one of the 90 for one of the 32 teams continues. The Ravens had invited him to participate in the team?s rookie minicamp; there?s a chance they will bring him in for an individual tryout.

I'm pretty sure the free tutors provided by OSU will even crack open the book for you.

So, that was the problem.....he needed someone to actually open the books for him. Never thought of that! There are so many well wishes in this thread it cracks me up. Personally I'm always glad to see laziness properly rewarded in this age of entitlement. Would love to hear his explanation for his situation. Based on his dad's excuse making it must be pretty comical coming from Duron himself. Sadly his is another in a long list of wasted talent.
Former Alabama WR Duron Carter to try out for New Orleans Saints

Duron Carter hasn't played a football game in more than two years. Now he's trying again to earn an opportunity to play one in the NFL.
Carter, the one-time Alabama receiver and son of NFL great Cris Carter, is among the undrafted rookies scheduled to try out for the club in a rookie mini-camp this weekend with the New Orleans Saints.
Carter practiced with Alabama in 2011, but was never cleared to play with the Crimson Tide. He transferred to Florida Atlantic, but was not granted an NCAA hardship waiver that would have allowed him to play in 2012. He played as a freshman at Ohio State in 2009 and spent 2010 at Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College.
Carter reportedly got to try out for his dad's old team, the Minnesota Vikings, but was not signed.
Duron Carter makes Montreal Alouettes? practice roster

While tryouts with the Vikings and the Saints didn?t land Duron Carter an NFL job, the son of Hall of Fame receiver Cris Carter has found a place in the Canadian Football League.
Carter, who went undrafted in April after a collegiate career marked by academic issues and a lack of on-field time, has made the Montreal Alouettes? nine-player practice roster, the club announced Sunday. A CFL practice roster is similar to an NFL practice squad.
The 22-year-old Carter caught 13 passes for 176 yards and a TD in 2009 for Ohio State in his lone season of game action on the FBS level. He would later transfer to Alabama and Florida Atlantic but never played for either school.
You mean his freshman year?matcar;2334920; said:I'm not sure Duron has NFL talent, regardless of work ethic. I was always eager to see him on the field while here at tOSU, but I'm not sure I ever saw anything that says NFL wideout...at least not with any certainty.

How many freshman start at WR that early in the season? "If a dogs gonna bite.." and all that..
Matcar, my point is; we saw a brief glimpse of an 18-year old.. no one saw enough to say "NFL wideout".. all we saw was potential for one fall. And then he [censored]ed it away.. again and again.
