WR Duron Carter (Official Thread)

What's with the negativity?
i'm not hoping that duron fails on the field or anywhere else. i need to make that clear. that being stated, his on-the-field performance is not even a tertiary consideration to me. some may think that i should have then kept my thoughts to myself then. perhaps that is appropriate. however, i look at an athlete who had every opportunity afforded to him during his childhood: a top-notch education, an upper-class lifestyle, and the best football instruction available. at osu, all he needed to do in the classroom was fire a couple neurons while taking a slate of classes that no junior high student anywhere should fail. on top of that, he had the best tutorial assistance that the university offers.

yes, i understand the academic circumstances that led to duron's decision to attend a school other than ohio state. duron chose the easy way out, though. instead of buckling down at the school he initially committed to, he's taking the path of least resistance. i don't respect that.

my wish for duron is that he develops off the field.

He could have transferred to any number of schools and I would have not only wished him well, but I would have continued to root for him. His choice of Alabama leaves me agreeing with those who are saying that he will receive nothing more than hope for development off the field. I cannot and will not root for Alabama or any player on their roster.

Godspeed Duron.

As I understood the situation, Ohio State really didn't have an interest in taking Duron back. They aren't obligated too, he came to campus..essentially flunked out and then transferred to JUCO. It is my understanding that it has been known for sometime that Ohio State didn't offer him the opportunity to come back. This may have been the result of him not making an adequate amount of progress in a certain time frame or maybe they never had really planned on offering to take him back (although this seems a little bit uncharacteristic of Tressel, so I'd lean towards the former). Not sure of the actual circumstances though.

Hopefully he takes this opportunity more seriously.

Duron Carter to transfer to Alabama
By Joe Schad
ESPN

Former Ohio State wide receiver Duron Carter committed to transfer to Alabama on Saturday, his father, Cris Carter, said.

"We just met with Coach [Nick] Saban and he's committed," Cris Carter said. "It's a combination of the coaching and the structure and for Duron's maturity. All of those things make it a good match."

Cris Carter said Duron, who played at Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College last season after leaving Ohio State, plans to enroll at Alabama in June and will be academically eligible to play immediately.

Duron Carter, 6-feet-5, 210 pounds, had 44 catches for 690 yards and 10 touchdowns for Coffeyville.

"I want to win a national championship," Duron Carter said. "I believe in what Coach Saban and the players are doing. This is a great program."

Carter said he also considered Oregon, LSU, Miami and Auburn.
