WR Duron Carter (Official Thread)

He'll still have to meet the 2.0 minimum, but his grades at OSU were so low that he'd have to perform at a 3.0 GPA level or better to raise his cumulative up to 2.0. At any other place he won't have past grades that would drag his GPA down like he does at OSU.

Because generally speaking, when you transfer your grades from your initial institution are not included in your GPA at the new institution. This goes for athletes and non-athletes alike.

Also, unless I'm wrong, I believe some people are starting to confuse things a little. It sounds to me like he wouldn't have to raise his cumulative GPA to 3.0 at OSU versus a cumulative 2.0 elsewhere. Rather, at OSU he would have to earn a 3.0 each term for a short period of time to get his cumulative where it needs to be, versus being able to get a 2.0 like normal anywhere else. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on that.

If that's the case, it's not really as high of a hurdle as it sounds like at first. This is part of what I do for a living - working with students who need to raise their GPA. Carter was only at OSU for a very short time (3 quarters?). It shouldn't take too much in the way of good grades at OSU to pull his cumulative up. For instance, if he carried 15 hrs. per quarter and earned a cumulative 1.67, he would only have to get a 3.0 once to bring his cumulative up to 2.0. After that, he'd be eligible and should be able to get between a 2.0 and 3.0 every term after that.

If he decides that he's a better fit somewhere else, that's OK too. It would suck for us fans, but he has to do what's best for him. Plus, if it's a situation where he feels getting a 3.0 for a few terms is too big a hill for him to climb, maybe OSU isn't the best place for him anyway.

He'd need to raise it up to 3.0 at OSU, not 2.0. Unfortuantely, I think his days at OSU have past.

Any chance we could get him in at Ann Arbor?

a 3.0 at a community college shouldn't be an issue for someone that by all accounts, is fairly intelligent.

The high gpa needs to be maintained at tOSU and it would be in core classes, no powder puffs. His CC grades don't count towards his average. While it seems easy to some, he hasn't quite proved discipline when it comes to the books. He would need to have a gpa that's basically in the top 10% of the team... that's a huge boost from his history. The path of least resistance does not run through Columbus.

Very frustrating.. a 3.0 is not difficult to do. Didn't Teddy hit 3.0 regularly with a learning disability?
I don't know if Ginn had a learning disability or not but the University has special programs for people with that type of disability. Makes it a little bit easier on the student.

Doesn't OSU have a Freshman Forgiveness rule so repeated classes dont' count against your GPA? I remember something like that 15 years ago. I don't know how transfer credits work with Freshman Forgiveness.

http://trustees.osu.edu/rules8/ru8-27-28.php -->

"
3335-8-27.1 Freshman forgiveness rule.
(A) If a course in which an undergraduate student receives a grade of "D+," "D," "E," or "EN," taken during the freshman year (the period during which the first forty-four credit hours are accumulated on the student's official permanent record) is repeated before the end of that student's sophomore year (when the student will have accumulated a total of eighty-nine credit hours), the original course credit and grade will be automatically excluded from the calculation of the student's cumulative point-hour ratio and deficiency points, but will remain on the student's official permanent record. This action will be subject to the following conditions:
(1) If the grade in the original course was a "D+" or "D," a student may repeat the course for credit only upon the recommendation of the authorized representative of the dean, or director of the student's enrollment unit. Such recommendation must be obtained before noon of the third Saturday of the quarter in which the repeated course is taken.
(2) The same course may be repeated only once under this rule.
(3) This rule may be applied for a maximum of fifteen credit hours.
(B) The graduate school and graduate professional colleges may formulate appropriate modifications of paragraph (A) of this rule, subject to the approval of the council on academic affairs, and publish the rule in their bulletins. (B/T 7/21/78, B/T 6/7/85, B/T 7/9/2004, B/T 6/7/2005) "

Wide receiver Duron Carter (6'3-200, 4.6), son of former NFL All-Pro Cris Carter, has LSU in his sights. No offer has been extended yet, but the 2009 Ohio State signee out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida had LSU in his final 4 along with the Buckeyes, South Florida and West Virginia before following in his father's footsteps.

Carter, currently at Coffeyville Community Colege, has LSU, Oregon, Oklahoma and USC competing for his services. Carter is considered a fierce competitor.
