WR Duron Carter (Official Thread)

I'm not 100% sure how all the NCAA rules work, but is JT the only one who can offer kids?

We are an established site. Can't Clarity or Grad write an offer letter to Duron? We can do a Winter fund raiser for tuition and books and Duron can walk on in the Spring.

Just thinking out loud here. I really liked this kid.

That's too bad.

He had a good opportunity at Ohio State that was, unfortunately, not fully taken advantage of.

Hopefully things will work out well for him at his future school.
Too bad in almost exclusively a football sense. He just didn't, and seems to still not get, the academic aspect to being a student-athlete. I sincerely hope that he doesn't believe if he had a positive academic record during his JuCo courses that he'd not have been offered by the staff. Tressel doesn't turn his back to kids if they are willing to help themselves improve.

Me-thinks this is Duron just trying to find a way to help himself sleep at night. Good luck to him, hopefully he can get the grades to graduate in the coming years.

Duron couldn't get it done in the classroom here, and couldn't stay academically eligible throughout the year in Coffeyville either IIRC. Common sense would tell you that you're not going to get invited back to somewhere that you were sent away from for violations that you've continued to exhibit elsewhere. This one's on Duron. Good luck to him.

His dad played in the NFL and works for ESPN now. I think they can afford it more than all of us can. But it's too bad. Good luck to Duron in his future. It's a shame because we all wanted to see him come in as a legacy player of an all time great and really make a name for himself. I guess that he'll have to do that somewhere else.

This is why you don't take life for granted.

I have the deepest respect for anyone with a learning disability, such as dyslexia, who overcomes it and completes university. I encounter it every day and know very well the frustrations that it causes.

I hope that Duron Carter and his father will not make the mistake of thinking that he is "stupid" or "slow". I even know a university professor who suffers from dyslexia and teaches multivariate statistics. It's not about lack of effort or stupidity, if this is what it sounds like.

Good luck, young man. So very sorry that this did not work out for you.

How do you know he has that?

Thanks for responding. I don't. My goal was to make sure that people don't start bashing the kid because he had to leave Ohio State due to grades.

We also don't know if this kid has a learning disability (e.g., dyslexia is used commonly to describe several processing problems that impact on learning). There have been some rumors about this, and I encounter a lot of adults and kids who have learning problems. To be frank, we're a bit better at assessing these problems and tackling them at primary school age here, than back home in the US.

Several of us BP'ers are professors. I think I may be distinguished among them for being kicked out of Ohio State after a couple of quarters due to grades. I luckily got a second chance and returned to finish and go on to become a professor. So, I know a bit about how this kid may be feeling. Imagine the dream that goes out the window for father and son.

So, GB2, thanks for asking and giving me the opportunity to make that point.
