WR Duron Carter (Official Thread)

Fields will see the field because he got what Carter doesn't, take-it-the-distance speed!

Precisely why the staff decide to let Carter play as a true frosh while redshirting Fields. Do you even recall the last time you've had any touch with reality?

Everyone pretty much knows that it's going to be Posey, Sanz, Duron, and Taurian as the main targets next season.

The young guys (James Jackson and Chris Fields) are very excited about the scrum that's going to go on in the return game. They all want the rock fielding kicks and punts.

I don't think that Taurian is necessarily an automatic as the 4th WR. Fields, Jackson, heck even Zoom and the incoming frosh could challenge Twash. We'll play the best players regardless of class.
And yes speed can be quite overrated when it comes to the WR position, ask Deangelo Hall, Devin Hester, or Darius Heyward Bey. All fast but can't catch a cold!

Duron was just on the local news channel (NBC-4, Sports). He admitted that he messed up in the classroom, indicated that he never wanted to leave Ohio State, and (with a big smile on his face) said he is now back!!!

I don't get it. When did he leave Ohio State?

Back in 84, 85 and 86, Ohio State had faster Wide Receivers than Cris Carter. Some of them saw the field very seldom.

It remains to be seen how productive either Duron or his faster teammates might be. But speed is but one, over-rated piece of the equation.

Not to belabor the point, but Fields has excellent hands and the coaches argued about his redshirt. Carter will be on a short leash and can't afford any type of screw up. Just sayin'.

The point is your premise was a foolish one. WRs don't get instant respect from DBs because of speed. James Jackson is the speed demon on OSU's team but until he matures in the rest of his game he doesn't command any fear or respect.

I would have loved to hear Cris talking to Duron about getting his act together. Cris wasn't actually a model of discipline in college either. I guess its the old "Do as I say, not as I did" father and son talk. Trust me, i've had those with my son. :wink2: Just a part of growing up.

Sounds just like a misinterpretation. Poor choice of words.

When he said that he "was back", I ass/u/med he meant "back on the team" (i.e. after being suspended).

No doubt. If I had a free education handed to me,...

Just want to say that there is no such thing as a free lunch or a free education. ANY athlete on a scholarship in any sport is taking on a minimum 40 hour work week through all but a week or two per quarter + whatever he/she decides to put into academics. The 'free' part is pure illusion.
