WR DeVier Posey (2017 Grey Cup Champion and MVP)

Pre WK 4 Can't-Miss Play: Posey conquers Vikings- NFL Network

Posey flashes potential on 80-yard TD

The electrifying 80-yard touchdown reception on which Texans receiver DeVier Posey shook off defenders to get into the end zone Thursday night pleased the receiver.
But it wasn?t the first time he?s had such a dramatic debut. The first catch Posey made in college went for a score, too.

?I don?t know. Maybe I got lucky twice,? Posey said. ?I just ? it?s the NFL. You only have so many opportunities. When time?s running out, you have to make the most of any one you get.?

Time was running out for Posey to declare his presence in this preseason. He didn?t catch a pass in either of the Texans? first two preseason games, then missed the third with a calf injury.

Having missed a lot of the 2010 season due to suspensions while he was at Ohio State, Posey has taken a bit longer than other young receivers to catch up on the Texans? offense. Knowing that would be the case, the Texans didn?t have any qualms about drafting Posey in the third round. They believed enough in his talent.

Posey wants to prove they were right. He did on the play on which quarterback John Beck hit Posey perfectly as the pass-rush confronted him.

?Beck put it right on the money,? Posey said. ?I knew the guy right on the inside was going to try and kill me. I was just like, ?I?m going to try and bounce off, just open up a stride and see how far I get.? ?

Posey finished the game with two catches for 93 yards. He fumbled his second catch when a defender knocked the ball from his hands.

?You don?t want to be 50/50,? Posey said. ?I just want to make sure I have that consistency I need to work on.?

Texans declared WR DeVier Posey, QB John Beck, CB Roc Carmichael, CB Brandon Harris, LB Bryan Braman, T Andrew Gardner and G Brandon Brooks inactive for Sunday's game against the Jaguars.
The Texans come in as one of the healthiest teams in the league. Arian Foster's knee and flu bug are of no concern whatsoever. Third-round rookie Posey has been a healthy scratch in each of the first two weeks, proving he's behind Lestar Jean and Keshawn Martin on the depth chart. Sep 16

First career NFL TD for DeVier tonight. Recovered a blocked punt in the endzone.

He also got called for "offsides" on a forth down punt that gave Green Bay the ball back to Green Bay with a first down. Green Bay then promptly scored.

In all fairness, on the replay it did look like a couple other Texans were lined up in the nuetral zone too, Posey's number just got called.

In all fairness? How many times did they put him on screen after that? How many times did they say he was offside? It sounded like it was damn near a Leon Lett screw up.

Posey steps up

Rookie receiver DeVier Posey entered Sunday?s game with one catch for 19 yards. On Sunday, he had three catches for 46 yards ? including a 36-yarder.

Posey was getting more playing time, ahead of No. 2 receiver Kevin Walter. Walter had two catches for 11 yards.

?We like what we see from Posey in practice, and we?re playing him more,? Texans coach Gary Kubiak said. ?We have confidence in Kevin, Kevin plays a lot in the game. Kevin is doing a good job.

?But what has taken place over the period of the last month is a young player who has really stepped up, so we?re going to give him more opportunities to help us.?

DeVier Posey has been impressing the Texans for a month in practice and he's now getting his chance in the games.

Timid isn't in DeVier Posey's vocabulary. The Houston Texans rookie receiver did not just request (and receive) the locker next to one of the NFL's all-time greatest wideouts.

He had the gall to expect more from Andre Johnson.

"People say Andre doesn't talk," Posey tells CultureMap. "But I was going to make him talk. I'd just keep asking him questions.

"Are you kidding me? You've got a guy like that right next to you?! You'd better use that resource."

"From the first day I was drafted, Matt texted me, 'We're trying to win the Super Bowl. Just jump on board.' Andre told me the same thing."

Posey's soaked up the lessons to the point where he has the chance to be a viable difference maker for a Texans team focused on making a Super Bowl run. Houston is 12-2, one win from homefield advantage throughout the AFC playoffs, with a 93-catch, 1,360 yard receiver (Johnson of course) and no other wideout with more than 37 catches or 455 yards.

As good as these Texans have been, there is clearly opportunity still open at receiver.

And Posey is starting to make a grab for it. He turned a good month of practice into a garbage-time shot in the New England rout and impressed enough there to be given much more playing time in last Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts. The result? One of the biggest catches of the game ? a 36-yard reception down the middle of the field that saw Posey hang out to the football through a devastating, penalized hit and set up the Texans' third score.

"I lost my virginity on my first NFL bang," Posey says of the collision catch.

Texans rookie Posey looking special at receiver

Better late than never for Texans rookie receiver DeVier Posey.

After spending most of his first season on special teams, Posey made an impact on the offense in the Indianapolis game, catching three passes for 46 yards from quarterback Matt Schaub.

Most impressive was Posey?s 36-yard reception down the middle in which he was sandwiched between Colts defenders but held the ball.

?He?s shown his teammates at practice that he?s ready to do that,? coach Gary Kubiak said. ?He?s been coming on all season. Over the last month, the lights kind of went on for DeVier.?

Expect to see more of Posey in Sunday?s game against Minnesota at Reliant Stadium, which could be historic for the Texans and the city.

If the Texans beat the Vikings, they?ll clinch home-field advantage in the playoffs.

?He doesn?t have to work so hard (anymore) when we put in game plans,? Kubiak said. ?He understands things, so his talent has really started to take over. I just think he?s got a lot of confidence right now.?

Posey, 22, was behind the other young receivers, Lestar Jean and Keshawn Martin, because he had less college experience.

After an outstanding sophomore season at Ohio State, Posey was suspended for 10 games but played the last three before entering the draft as an underclassman.

?He had missed (almost) a year of football, and it showed when he came to camp (and) early in the season,? Kubiak said. ?He was having to catch up.

?Usually, when players gain a lot of confidence at the end of year one, it can lead to some really good things in year two. You look at what (defensive end) J.J. (Watt) did at the end of last year and how he?s played this year. I don?t want to put that kind of pressure on him (Posey), but obviously he?s got the ability to be a good player.

?DeVier has the size (6-1, 206) and speed (4.42 40-yard dash). All the skill is there, too.?

Texans receiver Posey suffers torn Achillies tendon
Posted on January 13, 2013
by Ultimate Texans

Texans receiver DeVier Posey suffered a torn Achillies tendon in the final moments of the Texans? season-ending 41-28 loss to the Patriots in the AFC divisional round.

That?s a tough blow for the Texans. Posey, a rookie out of Ohio State, was coming on strong in the second half of the season. He would have made a strong push for the Texans? No. 2 position, behind Andre Johnson, in the upcoming season.

He had three catches for 47 yards ? including an amazing 25-yard touchdown grab ? in the loss on Sunday.

Posey had six catches for 87 yards in the regular season.

The recovery time for this injury is often about a year.
