WR DeVier Posey (2017 Grey Cup Champion and MVP)

Bucknut24;2291721; said:
it really sucks it happened in playoffs, he may miss entire 2013 season as well

If he heals fast, he should be able to play some of next season. It sucks how he got injured just as he was on the rise. I knew Posey was going to be a great receiver after watching him play in that Oregon game.

DeVier Posey Rookie Diary: Season in review
Nick Scurfield Email @NickScurfield

Throughout the 2012 season, Texans rookie wide receiver DeVier Posey, a third-round draft pick from Ohio State, provided insight on his experiences with a Rookie Diary on HoustonTexans.com. This will be Posey's final diary. He finished his rookie season with six catches for 87 yards, all in the final four games, and had three catches for 47 yards and a touchdown in two playoff games. He tore his left Achilles tendon in the Texans' season-ending Divisional Round loss at New England on Jan. 13.

I know the last time most people saw me was when I was getting carted off the field at New England, but I?m doing good. Surgery (on Jan. 19) went awesome. I?m really just taking it in slow motion, trying to take everything in for the year and just let my body heal. Hopefully, I?ll be able to walk soon. I?m watching a lot of TV, trying to let my body come back.

The injury happened when I was running and turned back and was backpedaling to stop and come back, and it just snapped. It was really like a freak accident, I felt like. The tension on both ends was at its max point. I felt like I?ve done that move, hopped back to the huddle a billion times. To me, it just kind of had to happen because it did, and it?s something I have to deal with.

It?s not really that painful of an injury or that painful of a rehab. A couple days after surgery, I was already off painkillers. You just have to respect the time with the injury because it?s such a powerful tendon that you have to allow it time to get back to its full strength and its full flexibility. I think that for me, that?s going to be the challenge, just respecting the time that it?s gonna take for this to heal.

Quotes: GM Rick Smith at the Combine

Rick Smith, Texans executive vice president of football operations and general manger, met with the media Thursday afternoon at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. The following is a transcript of his time with the media.

(On WR DeVier Posey) "I was as proud of anybody this year probably I was proud of DeVier, just the way that he worked. Every work day during the course of the week he was literally the last guy to leave. He put in extra work on the Jugs machine. He put in extra work running his routes and honing his craft. And I think you saw the result of that as the season progressed and he continued to improve and get better and I think you saw that toward the end of the season. I think the injury is something that he?s going to have to work through. But very similar to our football team and where we are right now, it takes adversity to build the mettle and the character that you need to win a championship and I believe that DeVier has a work ethic to get back from this. It?s something that I saw all last year. It?s something that we researched and thought we knew about him from Ohio State, it?s something that we were able to witness this year and I am confident he will be able to come back from that (Achilles)."

(On WR DeVier Posey?s hand) "He had a little fracture, he got that taken care of."

(On Posey?s timetable on leg) "It?s typically an eight to nine month, and don?t quote me on this, rehab process for him, typically speaking with that injury. I don?t know where he is or how that works."

Texans coach Gary Kubiak says WR DeVier Posey (Achilles) could "possibly (be) a middle of the season player."
"He's doing well," Kubiak said Tuesday. Posey went down in Houston's Divisional Round loss, and underwent surgery on January 19. Right now, he's a candidate for the PUP list, but it's possible he'll be placed on injured reserve before Week 1 depending on how his rehab is going. Mar 19

Jaleel Hytchye breaks record of role model Posey
Ohio high school notebook

As he was forging a legacy at La Salle High School as one of the area?s best all-time multi-sport athletes, DeVier Posey was inspiring a middle schooler at the same time.

?He kind of was like a role-model type of person, what I wanted to be when I got to La Salle and how I wanted to leave my legacy at La Salle,? said Jaleel Hytchye, now a senior at the school.

On Saturday at the La Salle Legends Classic, the University of Kentucky football signee ran the 200-meter dash in 21.51 seconds, breaking the school record of 21.74 seconds held by Posey since 2008.

?I didn?t know I was going to break DeVier?s record,? Hytchye said. ?I just felt it coming off the edge of the curve and I just opened up. We?ve been working a lot in the weight room in the offseason, getting stronger, and that?s kind of what I was missing from the track perspective.?

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Texans expect WR DeVier Posey (Achilles) to begin the season on the reserve/PUP list.
It means Posey will miss at least the first six games. It was almost certainly a factor in the Texans taking Clemson WR DeAndre Hopkins with the No. 27 pick, though they had a major need at wideout regardless of Posey's health. At this stage, Posey is little more than Dynasty league sleeper for fantasy purposes. Apr 26

DeVier Posey: ?I Think I?m Ready?
By DEEPI SIDHU, SportsRadio 610
June 3, 2013

144977151_8.jpg

HOUSTON (CBS Houston) ? Texans wide receiver DeVier Posey is excited to begin the next stage of his rehabilitation next week following the end of OTAs.

?I should be out on the field next week doing drills and getting acclimated to the heat and getting my foot on that solid ground again, getting used to that gravity. I?m looking forward to it. I think I?m ready,? Posey said after OTA practice on Monday.

Being sidelined with an Achilles injury from January, Posey is not expected to return until the middle of the 2013 season. Lately, he has kept himself busy studying not only his parts of the playbook, but those of the other receivers as well. Posey has also focused on strengthening his upper body and core while being limited with his foot.

?Those are the two components, getting the muscle memory back and the strength back and having the mental strength to know it?s fixed,? Posey said. ?The idea is to always come back stronger and better. That?s just what I?m trying to do.?

Posey tore his left Achilles tendon in January 13 during the Texans? playoff loss in New England. His long road to recovery, along with the loss of veteran receiver Kevin Walter, may have been the catalyst to the team drafting wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins in the first round. Posey was emerging as Texans? third receiver last season and possibly number-two for 2013 until his injury in the playoffs. The second-year receiver will have to wait until the season is underway to make that push.

?These next three months are the most important part of my rehab because of the field work and the strengthening part. As pain progresses and things progress, I?ll be able to do more and more. I?m a pretty tough guy; I can take pain so we?ll try to get out here as soon as possible.

WR DeVier Posey (Achilles) expects to be on field next week
Nick Scurfield

Almost five months removed from tearing his left Achilles tendon in the playoffs against the New England Patriots, DeVier Posey is nearing a return to the field.

Posey won?t be practicing anytime soon, and he could start the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list. He said Monday that he?s eyeing a return in September or October, but he expects to be able to do on-field rehabilitation with the Texans? training staff next week.

A 2012 third-round draft pick from Ohio State, Posey has been running an AlterG, a specialized air-supported treadmill that allows users to run at a percentage of their body weight.

"I think I'm as far along as I can be,? Posey said. ?I?ve been running well in there, been sprinting, getting up to about 12 miles per hour. It?s been pretty good, man. I like the progression that I'm going in as far as like strength goes. Right now, it's about mentally just getting prepared.

?It?s been a long year for me since the Patriots game, just being around here rehabbing, in the wheelchair to a scooter to crutches to a walking boot to finally getting in a shoe. I can?t sleep at night; I think about football all the time. Just to be able to get back out here and smell the grass and run and get that good sweat in, it?s gonna be awesome.?

Posey emerged late last season to become the Texans? third wide receiver. He was in position to push for a starting job in 2013 before his Achilles injury on Jan. 13. But he said that his senior season in college, in which he was suspended for 10 games by the NCAA, prepared him for his current situation.

?Back then, I wasn?t allowed to play because of the rules, but this time I can?t physically play,? Posey said. ?So preparation-wise, I know what I?m doing. I?m not just sitting around and just watching. I?m preparing like I?m going out to practice every day. I?m sitting in meetings taking notes like I?m a rookie again, just re-learning everything just trying to get it all in. It?s been really important to me. I?m a part of this team; I?m just hurt right now. And I?ll be back out there at some point, so to be able to be on top of things is important right now.?

Posey was a fixture at every OTA practice, helping the Texans? wide receivers coaches in drills, talking to his teammates on the sidelines and catching passes from a JUGS machine after each session.

?He?s doing great, but he can only do so much,? Texans coach Gary Kubiak said. ?He?s doing everything he can do. The old ?ahead of schedule,? that applies here. But remember, we?re making a decision on him at the end of camp because of the PUP and those type of things. He?s doing everything he can. He?s going to come back and he?s going to play for us next year ? how early is the question.?

Cris Carter On DeVier Posey?s Return
By DEEPI SIDHU, SportsRadio 610

HOUSTON (CBS Houston) - Wide receiver DeVier Posey may not like what former NFL wide receiver and ESPN analyst Cris Carter thinks of his Achilles injury. Both Posey and San Francisco?s Michael Crabtree are recovering from surgery for a torn Achilles tendon. Crabtree, who underwent surgery just six weeks ago, began his rehab this week.

?I believe it?s going to take a little more time for these guys to come back and I look for them to get healthy around November, beginning of December, and try to make that last playoff push. I?d be very, very careful with them in September and October, making sure I don?t have some type of setback on that Achilles,? Carter said on SportsRadio 610′s MaD Radio on Wednesday.

Posey may still start the 2013 NFL season on the Physically Unable to Perform list but he was hoping to return as early as September or October. Posey is undergoing rehabilitation but was able to participate in some drills off-field during OTAs.

Posey tore his left Achilles tendon on January 13 during the Texans? playoff loss in New England. Posey was emerging as Texans? third receiver last season and possibly number-two for 2013 until his injury in the playoffs. The second-year receiver will have to wait until the season is underway to make that push.
?The Achilles thing is difficult,? said Carter. ?The wide receiver, everything starts with an explosion and elongated stance and that?s pressure on the Achilles. It?s the same thing for Crabtree in San Francisco. We saw Suggs last year rush himself back but they are playing a different position.?

DeVier Posey?s status unclear on eve of training camp

Second-year receiver DeVier Posey, who?s recovering from a torn Achilles tendon suffered in the season-ending playoff loss to the Patriots last January, said he has ?no idea? if he?s going on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list before practice begins Friday morning.

?That?s an upstairs call,? Posey said. ?I haven?t been told anything yet.?

Players can come off the preseason PUP at any time, so the decision isn?t crucial to the upcoming season for Posey, who was a third-round draft choice in 2012.

?I?m right where I thought I?d be,? he said. ?It?s a six- to nine-month rehab and we just passed six months. I?m trying to take these (next) four to six weeks and fine tune things, to get that one-leg explosion and make sure my cuts are better than ever. I?m trying to take my time, trying to go about it the smartest way, to prepare for a career and not just a game.?

But he says he has been trying ?to push the envelope a little? to get back on the field.

?I just love football,? Posey said. ?I miss it. I want to play as soon as possible. It?s my profession. It?s what I wanted to do for a very long time and things were going well toward the end of (last) season. I saw what potential I have at this level. I want to be able to tap back into that (and) make the second-year jump. I don?t want to be excluded (because of his injury). I want to make it mentally and physically.?

Posey caught six passes for 87 yards in 11 games as a rookie.

Texans placed WR DeVier Posey (Achilles') on the active/PUP list.
Posey tore his Achilles' in the playoff loss to the Patriots, and he's just six months removed from surgery. The second-year wideout did some on-field running and agility work at minicamp practices last month, but he still has work to do before he finds his way onto the field for team drills. Jul 25

DeVier Posey close to return
August, 14, 2013
By Tania Ganguli | ESPN.com

Right after he tore his Achilles tendon in January, receiver DeVier Posey told coach Gary Kubiak he'd be ready in time for Week 1 of this season.

Kubiak looked at him like he was crazy.

"I was in a wheelchair," Posey said with a chuckle. "I went from a wheelchair to a scooter to crutches to a walking boot to a shoe to a heel lift. I just was constantly telling the guys I'll be ready for the regular season."

It's looking more and more like that will be the case. Kubiak said after practice Wednesday that Posey is very close to coming off the physically unable to perform list. In fact, it could happen next week.

Asked if he would be ready for the Texans' season opener in San Diego, Posey said his doctor was comfortable with that.

"I can almost dunk now," Posey said. "It's pretty amazing."

It's a remarkable recovery, considering the Texans never expected to have Posey by the beginning of the regular season.
Posey's surgery to repair the Achilles tendon was Jan. 18.

There was a moment when Posey wondered if he'd ever be the same again, but then he started doing some Googling and learned about how other professional football players have recovered from their injuries. He watched some of the Ravens' Terrell Suggs, who made his return in five months and did it against the Texans last year.

Posey's injury was a big part of why receiver became such a need for the Texans this offseason. With him healthy, the Texans' depth at WR gets a major boost.
