WR Dane Sanzenbacher (Official Thread)

too many posts to quote regarding him getting down......

Am I the only one who saw him use a nice step to juke the hell out of a defender and get an extra 7-8 yards?

Yes he got blasted.....but he did what you'd want any receiver to do. If he gets down immediately, people are blasting him for being soft.

He caught the ball, squared up, made a defender miss, took it downfield, and got lit up on an amazing defensive play.

I wasn't even upset after I watched the replay..the defender made a beautiful tackle, and caught Dane in a weird spot. But before the fumble, I saw a gear I hadn't seen out of him before.

I don't think that any of us find fault in him getting the extra yards. It was a great move, you're right. One of the reasons that I think he's picking up a following among us BPers... The getting down thing I think is a matter of situational awareness. It's been what, two or three big hits on him this year? The first that I remember was when (as people were suggesting) he was hung out by TB? Then there was one more between that and last weekend... which lead to the perfect storm of three defenders converging on him last Saturday. Credit him in spades for getting the extra yards. Right now that's the difference between him playing and watching... but with experience I expect that he'll pick up some situational awareness that he's about to get hit. With that awareness will come the instinct to keep his head out of trouble... or we can only hope for Dane.

Yeah, so if you took anything that I said as a suggestion that he should catch the ball and take a knee... then that's my bad. He's doing everything right... that is with the exception of getting leveled a few times this year! For a true soph, I'm not sure that you'd be able to ask much more of the kid. He's a hell of a player.

He's learning on every play! Just like TP. He will learn to avoid full hits.... he better. :tongue2: And protect the ball. He and Posey are already the best route runners on the team. That got them playing time this year. Hope Sanz puts on some more muscle.

[buckeyein SC] Has Sanzenbacher said anything about getting pummeled every game? it seems every time his hands touch the ball he gets knocked out.i really feel bad for him

[Ken_Gordon] Yeah, I talked to him yesterday for a Question and Answer story I'm doing for a future Gameday section (PLUG: Check them out online every Friday)....Dane said he's feeling fine, but he confirmed that he was briefly out cold. He said he prefers not to see a hit coming, like that one, because you don't have any time to get scared!

Dane quoted on his hit from

Dane returns this week listed as the 5th WR. Posey takes Dane's place behind Robo and Dane falls in behind Ray and Hartline. Either he hasn't progressed well enough from his concussion or we're going to see multiple receivers sets in various combinations. Passing the football maybe a very popular Saturday activity against MSU.

Beanie said we need to throw it more. Who knows?

I don't think Dane lost his "spot", I just think the coaches are protecting him for another week. The catch and run in the Wiscy game was sweet!
We may see more multi-receiver sets this week to "spread" MSU out.:nerd:

I thought that may be the case, but the kids are pushing for PT and there are 5 league games left.
