CAREER STATS

Robiskie was a second-rounder in ?09.
Year -- Team -- G -- Rec. -- Yds. -- Avg -- TD
2011 -- Browns -- 6 -- 3 -- 25 -- 8.3 -- 0
2010 -- Browns -- 14 -- 29 -- 310 -- 10.7 -- 3
2009 -- Browns -- 11 -- 7 -- 106 -- 15.1 -- 0
Career -- 31 -- 39 -- 441 -- 11.3 -- 3

Brian Robiskie, the latest player to take a spin on the Jaguars? wide receiver merry-go-round, has high expectations.

Robiskie was claimed off waivers from Cleveland last week.

?I think I can be great, given the right opportunity,? Robiskie said after his first practice Monday with the Jaguars. ?I think I?ve got a good opportunity here, so we?ll see what happens.?

He thought he was getting that opportunity when he was drafted in the second round by the Browns out of Ohio State in 2009, the 36th player taken.

Robiskie?s father, Terry Robiskie, was a former Browns assistant coach who spent the final five games of the 2004 season as the Browns? head coach after Butch Davis resigned. Brian was even a former Browns ball boy.

?It?s unbelievable,? he said when he was drafted. ?To come back here and be a part of this team, this franchise is unbelievable and I feel so blessed.?

But it never worked out for Robiskie in Cleveland.

After catching 127 passes for 1,866 receiving yards at Ohio State, he caught just 39 passes in 31 games for 441 yards for the Browns, including just three in six games this year.

He is not eager to talk about what went wrong in Cleveland.

?Whatever happened up there, it?s up there. It?s behind me. I?m a Jacksonville Jaguar now. I?m excited about moving forward,? he said.

On being cut, he said, ?It?s part of the business. When something happens, you have to deal with it and make the most of the next opportunity.?

BACK ALREADY: Receiver Brian Robiskie, who was waived Nov. 1 to make room for Clayton, will be back in Cleveland Sunday as a backup for the Jaguars. Robiskie was inactive in the only game the Jaguars have played since he was claimed off waivers. Robiskie was a major disappointment after being selected in the second round (36th overall) in the 2009 draft from Ohio State. He entered this season with 36 career receptions for 416 yards and three touchdowns. Before being waived by the Browns, Robiskie had three receptions this season for 25 yards. Shurmur reiterated that he didn't like having to waive Robiskie but that it was necessary to add depth at running back because of the injuries to Hillis and Hardesty. "That was the first time we had to do that this season cut a healthy player because of his position," Shurmur said. "I didn't want to cut Brian. That's the part of this business. There's the game and then there's the business behind it, and these are all things you go through."

The Jacksonville Jaguars have waived starting receiver Jason Hill, taking a step toward preparing for next year.

Hill had a disappointing season, catching 25 passes for 367 yards and three touchdowns, and dropped several balls. Since the Jaguars (3-8) plan to revamp their receiving corps in the offseason, waiving Hill forces Jarett Dillard, Chastin West, Cecil Shorts and Brian Robiskie onto the field more for evaluation.

Jaguars announce Brian Robiskie to injured reserve, roster is full
by Adam Stites on Dec 2, 2011

Brian Robiskie's season with the Jaguars ended today after he reaggravated a pre-existing hamstring injury and the Jaguars elected to place him on the injured reserve. What makes the move particularly interesting is that he represents the 19th player to go on the injured reserve list for the Jaguars and extends the Jaguars roster to 80 players.

One who has also impressed the Jaguars is Brian Robiskie, who joined the team at midseason last year and was promptly placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury.

?We?ve moved him around a lot,? Mularkey said. ?He?s been outside both spots, he?s played inside. He?s making some plays out there. I don?t see anything from the previous injury which was a substantial injury with that pull. I think he?s been really productive. He?s very steady, very consistent. You know what you?re going to get out of Brian every time he comes on the field.?

Jaguars' Robiskie quietly a minicamp standout
Robiskie, injured much of last season, quietly standing out in minicamp

WR Brian Robiskie (18) made a true over-the-shoulder grab of a pass in front of CB Dontrell Johnson. The Jacksonville Jaguars opened their three-day mini camp without an appearance from Maurice Jones-Drew. The running-back focus turned to Rashad Jennings (23) and others who were in camp. The morning session was held Tuesday June 12, 2012 on the Florida Blue Health & Wellness Practice Fields at EverBank Field, in Jacksonville, FL. (The Florida Times-Union, Bob Mack)

It took years of begging before Brian Robiskie was even allowed to play the game in which his father made a living.

Terry Robiskie, now a receivers coach with Atlanta, never wanted his son to feel pushed into it. He?d seen a lot in his years as an NFL player and assistant that he didn?t want his son to have to go through. He had Brian play baseball instead. But in seventh grade, Brian finally wore him down and was allowed to play football.

?It was love at first sight,? Brian Robiskie said.

That became important for Robiskie as he played in college and then became a second-round draft pick with the Cleveland Browns in 2009 who was released two seasons later before the Jaguars claimed him off waivers. That passion for the game is what helped Robiskie push through training and then rehabbing late last season, determined to make use of his second chance.

Now Robiskie is a receiver who has stood out to the Jaguars in their offseason programs. General manager Gene Smith said Robiskie has played well in the past couple weeks. Head coach Mike Mularkey praised his consistency.

?He?s really come out and not had a down day,? Mularkey said. ?He just comes out here and does his job. You don?t hear his name, you don?t hear Jerry [Sullivan, receivers coach] screaming at him. He?s playing a lot of different roles where he?s lining up. That?s a good thing. The more you can do and he?s doing it well, he?s going to be good for us"

Here's a look at who else is fighting for one of the final roster spots:

Brian Robiskie (WR, 39 career receptions for 441 yards) -- He has a good shot at landing the fifth WR spot behind Justin Blackmon, Laurent Robinson, Mike Thomas and Cecil Shorts. He's not a lock, though. He's been productive in the preseason, but rookie Kevin Elliot has shown a lot of upside at times in camp. Robiskie might be the best choice for 2012, but the Jaguars might favor Eliot for his long-term potential.

Brian Robiskie Robiskie is a player who has proven some worth this preseason as well catching twelve balls for 137 yards and a touchdown. However, some of those grabs have been against the reserves. It should not be overlooked completely since the preseason is to get a look at who can be productive. His best play came on a tough grab on a slant route, which ended up with a two yard touchdown. I feel like Robiskie will make the team, but as far as time on the field, he may end up as the fourth or fifth receiver on the depth chart.

Jaguars cut two, sign two players
Submitted by Ryan O'Halloran on September 10, 2012

The Jaguars made four roster moves on Monday night, cutting tight end Colin Cloherty and receiver Brian Robiskie and signing tight end Stephen Spach and offensive lineman Herb Taylor.

Spach has appeared in 59 games (24 starts) and been with Philadelphia, New England, Arizona and St. Louis. He has 22 catches for 137 yards. Taylor is a former sixth-round pick of Kansas City in 2007 and been with Denver, the Giants and Green Bay. He was cut by the Packers on Aug. 24.

Robiskie became expendable with the emergence of receiver Cecil Shorts on offense and receiver Kevin Elliott on special teams. Cloherty was cut at the end of the preseason but re-signed last week. Cloherty and Robiskie were inactive Sunday at Minnesota.
