Cincinnati Bengals Working Out WR Brian Robiskie On Monday
By Josh Kirkendall on Oct 22

According to a Jason La Canfora report, the Cincinnati Bengals are working out a handful of players including WR Brian Robiskie.

According to Jason La Canfora with CBSSports.com, the Cincinnati Bengals are working out players at Paul Brown Stadium on Monday.

One of those players is reportedly former Browns wide receiver Brian Robiskie.

Robiskie, selected in the second round of the 2009 NFL draft, has 39 career receptions for 441 yards receiving and three touchdowns. He hasn't posted a reception since 2011 with the Jacksonville Jaguars and his only 10-plus receiving season was 2010 -- 29 receptions for 310 yards receiving and every touchdown in his career.

It's an understandable reaction after recent weeks has described how poor the Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver roster is right now. With A.J. Green only posting one reception, targeted six times against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Andy Dalton had no one else stepping up. We doubt Robiskie, if signed, is some be-all solution to Cincinnati's wide receiver issues. But it's enough of an issue to see what else is out there.

The Detroit Lions signed former Cleveland Browns and Ohio State wide receiver Brian Robiskie today to take the place of the injured Nate Burleson.

Robiskie was one of a handful of receivers who worked out for the team Tuesday, a day after Burleson broke his leg and was lost for the season. The Lions placed Burleson on injured reserve today.

A second-round pick by the Browns in 2009, Robiskie has not appeared in a game since October of last year. He was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars one game into this season.

Robiskie has 39 career catches for 441 yards and three touchdowns.

Lions' Jim Schwartz hopes WR Brian Robiskie can be quick study

The Lions placed wide receiver Nate Burleson on injured reserve Wednesday, officially ending his season with a broken leg, and signed Brian Robiskie for insurance in his place.

A second-round pick by the Cleveland Browns in 2009, Robiskie will play a limited role behind Calvin Johnson, Titus Young and Ryan Broyles, but coach Jim Schwartz said Robiskie's background as a coach's son should make him a quick study in the playbook.

Robiskie's father, Terry, is the receivers coach for the Atlanta Falcons, who the Lions host in December.

"He's been raised in football," Schwartz said. "His dad's a wide receivers coach. Sometimes that might be a tough lot in life, but it's paid off for him."

Robiskie, an Ohio State product, was one of a handful of receivers who worked out Tuesday and was signed over former Miami Dolphins receiver Legedu Naanee.

Robiskie hasn't appeared in a game since last October, but spent the first week of the season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, who the Lions face next week. He was released in Jacksonville after one game.

In his first 2 1/2 seasons with the Browns, Robiskie had 39 catches for 441 yards and three touchdowns.

"Hopefully we can get him up to speed right away," Schwartz said.

Opportunity knocks for receivers Broyles, Thomas and Robiskie
Tim Twentyman

Lions trio of young receivers putting in extra work with the expectation of bigger roles this Thursday.

After Monday's walkthrough practice at Allen Park, receivers Mike Thomas, Ryan Broyles and Brian Robiskie stayed after practice and worked with backup quarterback Shaun Hill running routes and getting better acclimated to the offense.

"It's a way to get them caught up and keep myself in it too," Hill said Tuesday of the extra work with the receivers on Monday. "It's a way to get new guys who come in throughout the year to get them reps and get me reps too and teach the offense at the same time."

That extra work for all three of those receivers could pay dividends come Thursday vs. Houston, as all three expect to have bigger roles with Titus Young inactive for disciplinary reasons.

Thomas and Robiskie are still trying to catch up. Thomas was acquired via trade with Jacksonville less than three weeks ago and Robiskie was signed as a free agent at the end of October.

"At this point, for me and Robiskie and some of the guys just getting here, the more the better," Thomas said of getting extra reps after practice in preparation for Thursday. "You really can't have enough. As many opportunities as we can have to game plan it in our mind and walk through it in our mind is good for us."

Robiskie is expected to be active for the first time since the Seattle game Oct. 28.

"It's exciting anytime you have an opportunity to contribute to the team," he said. "The door has been opened and me and Mike and Broyles all want to take that opportunity to help this team get a win and get back on track."

Trash-talking Falcons father doesn't faze Lions' Brian Robiskie

Allen Park ? It's kind of old hat for him. Saturday night will be the third time Lions receiver Brian Robiskie has played a game against a team coached by his father. Terry Robiskie is the Falcons' receiver coach.

"I am just planning on seeing him on the field before and after the game," Brian said. "I'll tell him Merry Christmas and good luck and put my helmet on and keep warming up."

He's played against his dad as a member of the Browns and Jaguars. And just because his dad coaches offense doesn't mean he won't try to get into Brian's head.

"He would talk mess all the same," Brian said. "He would talk trash. He could be the special teams coach, it wouldn't matter. I am sure he's talking to those guys and hyping them up. That's just his personality. I am excited."

Robiskie has a chance to put himself in the discussion for a role with the Lions next year. With injuries to Burleson, Young and Broyles, he's been sharing the No. 2 spot with Durham.

Robiskie was on the field for 34 of the 77 snaps against Arizona. He was targeted three times and had one catch for nine yards.

"We have some guys who have an opportunity and you don't get a lot of opportunities in the NFL," coach Jim Schwartz said. "They need to take advantage of it and show they can be counted on."

Robo just made a nice catch on a slant for a TD, and held on despite getting blown up on a personal foul call against the Bears.

He was also instrumental on keeping that same drive alive, hauling in a long pass for a first down. Showing his worth in big time moments.

Brian Robiskie returns to Lions
Posted by Josh Alper on April 15, 2013

Wide receiver Brian Robiskie wasn?t gone from the Lions long enough to miss them.

Robiskie was released last week by the Lions and Tim Twentyman of the team?s website reports that he?s re-signed with the team on a one-year deal. Twentyman doesn?t get into the specifics of why Robiskie was briefly cut loose, but the minimum salary benefit is likely the reason for the procedural maneuvering.

Robiskie had been on a two-year deal, but the Lions will wind up saving money under the salary cap by cutting him and re-signing him to the minimum for a player with his experience. Only $555,000 of the deal counts against the cap, though, thanks to the minimum salary benefit rule that?s in place to encourage teams to sign vets on one-year deals with limited signing bonuses over younger players who would otherwise count less against the cap.

That rule helped Robiskie get back onto the Lions roster, but it probably won?t do much to help his chances of holding onto his job into next season. Robiskie didn?t do much to impress during his brief stint with Detroit last season, a stint that came about because Nate Burleson was hurt and the team needed a body. Burleson is expected back and the team is likely to add another receiver in the draft, leaving Robiskie with an uphill climb to make the team.

Man, I hope Robo is keeping his jerseys from every team. He is going to have quite a collection!

Seriously, he's a good receiver, maybe not All Pro, but he's good and there is no drama sideshow lockerroom disruption to go along with it.

Good luck Robo!
