WR Brian Robiskie (Official Thread)

Timeout with Ohio State sophomore receiver Brian Robiskie
By Staff reports

As a 4.0 student, do you like breaking that dumb-jock stereotype?

"Yeah, I do. When I go into a class with my red sweats on and we get a group assignment, it's funny to see how the group doesn't ask (football players) questions or take information from us. But then you say something, and they actually realize we know what we're talking about."

As the son of an NFL coach (Browns assistant Terry Robiskie), you've been around a lot of pros. Who has impressed you most?

"Jerry Rice. I didn't get to talk to him a lot. But, he told me at a young age: 'Don't stop working and don't stop running hard and doing the little things.' That stuck with me. My dad is good friends with Marcus Allen, too. That's a guy I've looked up to a lot. He called me through the recruiting process and through my big games."

Did you feel pressure to play football?

"My dad kept me from playing football until I was in middle school. He wanted to make sure I was playing for myself and not because my dad was a coach."

Why did you pick OSU?

"They offered me real late. I almost had my mind made up that I was going to Miami (Fla.). I made a visit here and got a chance to spend some time with the coaching staff, and I really liked it."

Did coach Jim Tressel make a convincing pitch?

"He talked to my Mom. He didn't even come to the house ? he met her at my school. And she said, 'That Coach Tressel is a great guy. Maybe you should go down and check out that school.' "

Robo does have some great ball skills! He makes great adjustments to get to the football.

Robo's ability to adjust to the ball is the best on the team and among the best I've ever seen. It is that ability that caused me to compare him recently to Larry Fitzgerald.

Many receivers can adjust to the ball so as to catch it. Ted Ginn Jr. does a great job of that, as does Gonzo. What sets Robo apart is his ability to adjust to the ball so that when he gets there the defender has no chance to make a play on the ball even to knock it down. Whether it's getting there with your back to the defender, or over-running the ball and reaching back for it, or high-pointing a ball and taking a hit instead of taking a chance on losing the reception to try for a big play; Robo does it all. Lots of guys can do that once in awhile. Robo has done it on most of the receptions that I've seen.

If you think it's easy, then you don't remember what it's like to play the game; or you never did.

Wooh! Let's not get too carried away.
He has been great, but we need to see more.
And it seems he disappears some times.
And also Big Ten DBs know how to push him around and out of bounds.
In his defense he is very advanced for a true soph!
