WR Braxton Miller (B1G POY, National Champion)

Nothing. Mili doesn't seem to remember we went to a freshman about 3 yrs ago and we had a pretty good season.

I highly doubt there is a QB on our roster besides TP that has the ability and skill that Braxton possesses. There is a reason he is ranked in the top of his class at his position. Not only can he make all the throws in High School but also shows the uncanny ability to escape the pocket like Mike Vick. He has the quickness and agility that Pryor lacks and has just as much speed. He just doesn't posses it in a freakishly huge body.

I think when he steps on campus, he will be the best running QB that we have seen, and that includes TP.

Until he gets hit by a college linebacker. Braxton hasn't been the most durable guy in high school.

He also hasn't had a Big Ten caliber O-Line to play behind either. Goes both ways. If I had to estimate the average size of the O-Line throughout his 4 years at Wayne, it would be about 5'10" 270 lbs. Not exactly "big uglies".

Yep. The OL play really improved towards the end of this season (which is why I think Wayne went so far) but they were downright bad for most of Braxton's career. Although I would say that Wayne has played outstanding competition and I'm sure he has been hit by plenty of solid D1 recruits...Hicks, DePriest, Steve Miller...yada yada. Anyways, injuries do concern me with Brax regardless.

Ohio State bound QB Braxton Miller prepares to play early

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Pressure. The big stage of college football. It's what all the Under Armour All-Americans live for and for one, Huber Heights (Ohio) Wayne QB Braxton Miller (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne), it might happen sooner rather than later. Miller is an Ohio State commit and enroll early in Columbus and with the future of current starter Terrelle Pryor up in the air, the door is open for Miller to play immediately. Pryor, who has said he will return for his senior season, will serve a five-game suspension to open the 2011 season and he could still conceivably leave for the NFL draft.

"I am not redshirting. Coach [Jim Tressel] told me that," Miller said. "I just need to go in, learn the system and get the hang of it. They will make the choices. I just need to work hard."

Back in Class of 2008, Pryor was one of the most coveted prospects in the nation. Miller has drawn comparisons to Pryor, but some think he can make more of an impact on the Buckeyes than Pryor has in his time in Columbus.

"My feeling about Braxton Miller is that he's the most important quarterback pick up [for Ohio State] in the last decade," said ESPN Recruiting coordinator Craig Haubert. "Terrelle Pryor was highly coveted because of his athleticism. He's developed some as a quarterback but he's not a hot commodity as an NFL QB because he has some limitations at that position. Braxton can bring a similar level of athleticism, although Terrelle Pryor is a freak, but Braxton can do more as a passer at a younger stage. If he can handle it mentally, he has the physical tools of a QB and the running element. Early on in his career, he can do more in the passing game."

I wonder if Tressel made the decision to not red-shirt Braxton before or after he learned of Pryor's predicament.
I think Tressel prefers to red-shirt the freshmen that really can't compete for the two-deep rotation. I would say that Braxton, through sheer force of skill/will, may crack the two-deep at QB.

When you consider that Miller is likely to be the starter for the Buckeyes by 2012 (his true-sophomore year) why would the staff red-shirt him? The answer would be purely from a selfish perspective of: if we red-shirt him in 2011, then we can start him for 4 straight years! I think about that perspective and simply disagree; that is 5 years for Miller to be in school but he is a really solid student and is likely he can earn a degree on a typical 4 year time-line. Further, he can contribute as a player early. There is no indication that Miller needs the red-shirt.

If we don't red-shirt him, then he can get some reps in 2011 and be a better 2012 QB and then start from then until he leaves/graduates. I think that 3+ years to get out of a starting quarterback is phenomenal. You red-shirt projects. You don't red-shirt players like Braxton. I just don't see that (outside of the Buckeye fans' benefit of seeing Miller start for 4 years instead of 3) we would want Miller to red-shirt and ask him to stay here for 5 years when he could be the same student-athlete in 4?

Not to mention, it is quite likely that, by 2014 and regardless of him redshirting in '11 or not, Miller will be ready to compete for a professional roster spot.

I think Tress is going to give Braxton every chance to win the starting position. He is already the most gifted QB on the roster. He is not the most developed, but the most gifted with the most upside.

If our running game can start off fast next year, I could see Tress giving the nod to Braxton, and see him develop him slowly, must like he did with TP.
