WR Albert Dukes (official thread)

I couldn't hope for anything more than to see Dukes break out this year. If he indeed is one of the better route runners on the team, he just needs to work on his hands now. He caught a TD in the scrimmage, now he just needs to translate it to gameday.

What in the world happened to Albert Dukes this season? Talk about falling into a black hole !!! Anyone have access to Ohio State official football participation chart ?? Did Albert see any playing time at all in 2007 ?

Not sure about actual playing time on Special Teams or anything but as far as any statistical production I don't see anything.

Ohio State - Cumulative Season Statistics

The official NCAA participation report says Albert played in 7 games this year, the first 7.

No stats for this season.

He's only played in 15 games for his entire OSU career (A redshirt freshman, and then 3 full seasons now). 4 receptions for 39 yards.

Maybe next year...:(.

I do know that even people close to the program are not sure what has happened with Dukes and Devon Lyons, Lyons has hitorically had some injury problems but nothing reported this year. As for Dukes he was impressive in Spring Ball and was being called the best route runner on the team but yet nothing materialized for him this season. Guess we will just have to wait and see, but with Posey and some other potential impact freshman coming in at the position I am not sure what the future holds for him or Lyons.

Just a side-bar from your post, but Lyons was the best receiver during the Spring game hands down. Made tough catches in traffic and showed great ball skills.

Not really sure what happened or why it hasn't translated into the regular season.

I had great hope for Lyons, but he has been dogged by a string of injuries. :(
Dukes has just not developed as we had hoped for various reasons. And quite frankly, others have outperformed him.

Agreed on both, and unfortunatly time is running out for both.

As much as we all hope to see every Buckeye achieve the fullness of their potential some do not. Whether it be for academic, physical, mental or a mixture of reasons they just don't realize the promise held for them.
For some it is simply because they played 3 or four years behind a Ginn, or a Krenzel and never had the opportunity to perform on a level needed to showcase their wares.
I don't know which of these Albert falls under, but it is obvious that he has not reached that level yet. So he now has a large question to answer. Does he stay at tOSU and try to play behind Robo, Hartline et al or does he transfer full knowing that even that reduces his chances of making it into the NFL. Sure some have made it, Nick Goings for example, but even with full playing time will that be enough to showcase his talents?
Tough question.

you never know, if he sticks it out and becomes the number 3-4 option next year, and gets just a little bit of exposure he could still get his chance. Bam Childress and Drew Cater are 2 that pop into my head just from the last few years. Guys that were hyped bigtime when they got here but you never really saw the production throughout their careers @ tOSU, especially Bam. Roy Hall made a name for himself with a productive senior season. I'm sure it's tough when you aren't the number 1 or 2 option in an offense. Tough to get noticed. He needs to make the best decision for himself of course, but hopefully he decides to stick it out and they make another run for the title next year.

Or how about Roy Hall?

For that to happen it is helpful if somebody leaves. We are replacing Lukens and Lisko with Posey, Stoney and Thomas. He has already fallen behind two Frosh despite his experience advantage. Very tough hill to climb.

It does look like he has fallen behind some recruited after him and another thing to consider, true or not, is the mentality in the team that a player gets known as an under achiever or accident prone. Almost anything can be a hurdle. Guys have to learn to fight thru that much as Eddie learned to push himself to the max.
