WR Albert Dukes (official thread)

WR Albert Dukes

This thread is not for his legal woes... take those comments elsewhere

I have a few questions, for those who followed Dukes closer thru recruiting and last season:

1) Dukes redshirted last year, correct?
2) Any idea what kind of athleticism he showed during recruiting, as in 40, shuttle, vertical jump?
3) Anyone have a good writeup about him from when he was a recruit? I found very little when I looked around

I realize the above questions mean very little, and what actually matters is that the coaches are all really excited about his potential (as Dustin Fox confirmed when he said he could be "better than Holmes").

Overall, I'm glad to have this kid back and can't wait to see what he can do next fall (I won't expect him to be quite ready by this year's spring game, but if he is I'll be pleasantly surprised... I sure hope the shoe gives him a warm welcome when his name is called on the PA)

1) yes he did redshirt last year.
2) I just know the miami people were frustrated they didnt want him just like with holmes. His high school coach said he was the best wr he ever coached and that included holmes and then you have to quote from fox, so most people are really excited about what he can do.

After asking the question, I finally found info on theOzone which stated he'll be graduating in 2008 alongside Boeckman and others. So he officially redshirted last year.

So can he get some kind of "color"shirt for this year since he will be back, but I don't know about his grades since he missed a lot classes so far? Or he is a FR next year, period.
I don't think he will have any problem being eligable despite missing classes because of the quarter system. As long as he takes a few classes during the summer, he should be fine.

This is exactly why the Planet archives recruiting threads -- for future topics like this. :) Unfortunately, this place wasn't up and kicking during Dukes' recruitment, but as posters in this thread have recalled, there were a number of facts that had us Buckeye fans excited about his recruitment:

- He played at Belle Glades, the same school as Holmes.

- Various Buckeye recruiting experts and his HS coach compared his style and athleticism to Holmes, usually with the modifier "but better" attached.

- Miami fans were somewhat perplexed as to why "the U" wasn't in on him, but tOSU was.

- He was considered something of a steal. I think he might have only been rated three stars in some services? Correct me if I am wrong on that. I don't remember there being much of a battle over him (as compared to say, Mo Wells). Mostly that Tress and co. had found a kid who was a bit under the radar.

The end conclusion amongst message board Buckeye fans was that "we stole another Santonio Holmes from south Florida", which was generally good enough for everyone. :)

Yeah, I checked his recruiting thread and there was very little info on him, so I started this one.

I'm incredibly happy for the guy that his troubles are behind him... and we're probably gonna need him to step up next year and fill Holmes' shoes... tho if he wants to breakout this year as a freshman that's fine by me :)

He's a little bigger than Holmes but I see similar athleticism. In a 7 on 7 passing scrimage over the summer I saw Holmes working with him quite a bit on routes, and I saw Dukes using those lessons to get wide open. If he learns to run routes as well as Holmes he could be really special.
