I respect this board very much but BB you blow my mind sometimes. The fact is, we won. I am sorry if you weren't impressed with the win

OK, you have your opinion and I have mine. I'll just note that several UT fans as I was leaving the Shoe that night said that you guys didn't deserve to win that game. I mention it only to show that it is not simply my OSU bias which makes me think that we'd win if we played again. As I said before, though, you can have your opinion--I certainly won't say that you "blow my mind" just b/c you think UT would win the second time around.

HL, you really know how to keep a cool head on our board when people make irrational comments or thoughtless ones. I'm glad you're sticking around on here, and I think a lot of other members on here agree with me :)

I completely agree GD. We can do all the smoke house bullshit talk that we want. Bottom line, they beat us. And until we get to play them again,, that won't change.

HL, you are a class act.

but what about the game being "in the shoe at night" how many points was that worth again? I respect this board very much but BB you blow my mind sometimes. The fact is, we won. I am sorry if you weren't impressed with the win, and i will conceed that if we play 10 times both probably go 5 and 5, but how can you be "Entirely Confident". We came into the shoe took you defenses best shot(and a very good one i might add) and won.
I wasn't entirely confident we would win on 9/10....I was supremely confident. If I bet on college football I would have put every penny I had on tOSU in that game. I thought Texas was soft, overrated and couldn't match up with our skill on offense. I though they would fold when they figured out we were just as athletic as them. I was totally wrong. Texas is the toughest team we've faced in I don't know how long. Our D played lights out for 2 quarters, but VY and company never stopped coming. Their D played 99.8% as good of a game as our D. I think we would win the rematch, but I'm not nearly as confident as I was about the first game. I think Texas or tOSU would pound USC. Methomps signature (if he hasn't changed it) goes something like: big meateaters from Iowa and scUM...blah blah beat our sushi eating asses....blah blah but it didin't happen. If we play USC this year it will happen. If Texas plays them this year it will happen (y'all eat meat in Texas, don't ya :wink2:). If we play Texas again it will be an instant classic, if we play in the Rose and tOSU wins it would be the beginning of a great college football debate. I would love to see that happen. Plus, as I said before, fuck USC.

Unless USC remains number 1 and we get to number 2 by some wierd BCS mechanics I would like to see a re-match this season with Texas.

I agree with you HighLOnesome that the home field advantage gets evened out in a Bowl game - and for once the travelling crowds might be about equal in numbers, unlike what happened with the NC Fiesta Bowl game where an overwhelming majority of the crowd was decked out in Scarlet & Gray. Of course that makes it somewhat like your Red River Shout-Out - we'll see after Texas plays Oklahoma if that remains an area of concern for Mack Brown  .

So, I think the game then comes down to which team has improved more throughout the season. I doubt very much that the Longhorns have stood pat since the 9/10 game in the Shoe. We all agree that the Buckeyes have been upgraded first through solidification of the QB position, and derived from that improved QB play, a smoother running offense. Both D's are playing premium grade football Ohio State's D in particular has further tightened things up after the Texas game.

All in all I think the pros and cons even out - lending us the prospect in this hypothetical scenario of a really close, probably thrilling game.

Now go take care of Oklahoma, here's hoping the Buckeyes hold their head high and take care of business in Happy Valley -- or else all of this becomes moot.

I don't really see any room for dispute here -- If we do make the NC game, it will be against Texas. There's no way we can be above them in the BCS poll (even with its many flaws) unless they lose twice this season, which isn't going to happen.

The reason to be confident that OSU will have a much better showing against texas in a rematch primarily has to do with the fact that our offense had no clue what the fuck it was doing at that point. Smith had gotten all of what, 0 full practices with the just the first teamers at that point? The offense you'll see tonight against PSU or in Pasadena should we be so lucky won't be that same headless chicken you saw on 9/10.

In the end I'd like to see texas, just to prove my point above ... but rose bowl is rose bowl ... just getting there would be awesome.

I think the situation where SC and the bucks both finish with one loss will be bad though, because I can really see SC being 2 in both the media and the coaches poll because of the SC lovefest that has been going on the last 3 years.
