i've moved my reply here so as not to further divert the New Uniforms for others thread off topic.

The school has publicly stated that's the plan.

If you go to their board you'll find comment after comment referring to themselves as the "University of New York" or just "New York". They seem to believe that playing Ohio State on national TV will help springboard them into an eventual ACC or even B1G offer based on the exposure. lol

According to the Wikipedia entry for SUNY-Buffalo:

Buffalo has consistently placed in the top cluster of U.S. public research universities and among the overall top 30 research universities according to the Center for Measuring University Performance[8] ... In the 2012-2013 edition of "World University Rankings", Times Higher Education ranked UB at 198, making it one of the top universities in the world.

Athletic performance has been woeful, but from an academic perspective this school matches up well with most major conferences.

Excepting, of course, the SEC; they'd need to lower their game substantially to fit in there.

Using my composite rankings of FBS schools:

B1G
5 TSUN 1380.7570
6 Northwestern 1350.3192
7 Wisconsin 1347.1368
11 Illinois 1253.4872
12 Minnesota 1231.3986
14 Ohio State 1188.2804
17 Penn St. 1149.3896
19 Purdue 1112.1102

57 Syracuse 563.0363

(BC & Syracuse are a bit disproportionately low due to their lack of focus on postgrad/reseach)

SEC

16 Vanderbilt 1159.5158

24 Texas A&M 1085.2718

Mid-Majors:
22 Rice 1097.4030
37 U Mass 797.7497
41 Connecticut 724.0432
43 Tulane 718.0628
44 Cincinnati 716.2576
46 Buffalo 709.1601
52 Hawaii 622.7084
59 UAB 554.5952
60 BYU 547.9338
64 South Florida 521.9056
69 Central Florida 490.2204
70 Houston 475.8880
74 Temple 445.3956
76 San Diego St. 432.8808
77 SMU 431.1580

The real question is, does Buffalo offer anything that would make it more attractive than UConn or UC...or for that matter, UMass?

A football-crazy metropolitan population and a toehold in the Toronto market? They also have an ambitious strategic plan for the next decade, including an expansion and renovation of their stadium.

I agree. Buffalo has a lot of upside that Cincy does not. The juggaloes are never going to be anything more than the third or fourth best public university in Ohio while bringing nothing to the table for the conference or the BTN.

How the hell is Ped Aggy ranked 37th and in the top 10 for publics: ahead of Wiscy and Illinois? They have to be gaming the rankings by showing those 70K branch campus applications as rejections to State College--i.e. any 2.5gpa/22 ACT student who applies to PSU-Shitsville is first formally rejected to State College even though he had not intention of every applying there because he knew he wouldn't get in.

Their actual enrolled freshman classes are notably below us and Texas both of whom are tied at 52/16.
