World University Rankings (MEGAMERGE)

I see that the juggalos have clawed their way (or FredOU has dropped) into a tie with OU. As I predicted a couple of years ago, that loudmouthed clown McDowell at OU would soon be relegated by UC into being the fourth best public in Ohio.

What's interesting is that, while McDowell hasn't missed an opportunity to take public shots at Ohio State, his university is falling further and further behind. Meanwhile, the two Ohio State alumni who ran UC for the last decade, didn't choose to take on the throne, badmouth Ohio State or get caught up in delusions of grandeur that would never come to pass. Instead, they quietly focused on improving Cincy where it was necessary and staying within the structure of the University System of Ohio. Cincy got better; FredOU got worse.

Now Cincy has an Ohio State baiting clown of a President in the Proenza/McDowell mode, and it'll be interesting to see if that momentum continues.

Who the hell would want to be a sugar daddy to a Ped State coed?
Even stranger to see Ohio University right below Ped Valley.

If I were a moneyed old fart looking to trade tuition for pussy, neither State College nor Athens OH would be the first stop on my World Tour.

My reaction to seeing Kent State on that list is "???????" I'm a proud KSU alumni, I love the school and what it did for me. That being said, the typical female is a tad on the rotund side. Unless you pay by the pound I don't see them being able to get enough out of an arrangement to pay even in-state tuition.

New USN&WR came out today. We're 54th/16th public. Man, that Top-50 threshold is like kryptonite. We've been butting up against it for well over a decade but can't get through. What's puzzling is that among the group of publics in the 40s we have both better (often much better) freshman class profiles and financial resources (endowment & annual giving), yet we're still stuck on the wrong side of 50.

Funny too how, though we're ranked roughly the same among publics as in the global rankings, we're considerably worse in the overall ranking. Just goes to show how the USN&WR ranking is set up to grossly favor private universities over publics.

Adding to what ORD said above:

The Dawgs and Buckeyes tied for 16th. Why the hell they can't just separate them as 15 and 16 I will never know.

Couple of Comments and questions:

1). UGA and Florida are the only two schools represented in the top 20 from the SEC
2). All I hear from the news (possibly fake news) is how "broke" California is as a state. How the hell can they have like 8 schools listed in the top 20 if their budget is so strapped? Southern Cal is #21 as well.
3). As much as I hate to admit it, Georgia Tech is a very, very, very good school
4). I'm assuming our invitation to join the Big Ten is in the mail! :urban2:

I’ll gladly substitute UGA for PSU.

I love watching their fans whine. They want out of the Big Ten, so I want them to stay in. But watching them in the SEC might be funnier. "We'll finally get some fair referees" will quickly become "These referees don't let us win, either!"

Wait is this a thing? Penn State wants to join the SEC?
I don't believe they're invited!

No they don’t wish to join the SEC, they just don’t want to be to be a part of the B10 because they aren’t a big fish in a small pond. It would be great for them to join another conference so they couldn’t be mediocre there as well. At that point, they might begin to understand that fundamentally, mediocre is what they are.

I know we've discussed this before, but how much of Georgia & Florida's rise and separation from the rest of the SEC academically has been the result of cultural changes towards public education driven by Yankee transplants demanding that the state flagships move in the direction of the B1G schools?
