Ex-Titans coach Mike Vrabel may land at Wisconsin, Luke Fickell says

The former NFL head coach could return to school.

Former Tennessee Titans coach Mike Vrabel could join Luke Fickell's staff at Wisconsin next season in some form or fashion, the Badgers' head coach confirmed. Fickell and Vrabel are longtime friends after rooming together during their Ohio State careers. Vrabel, and three-time Super Bowl winner and 2021 NFL Coach of the Year, did not land an NFL head-coaching job after the Titans fired him in January with 54-45 record over six years.

“I talked to him, I think, on Saturday, and we hadn't communicated for probably a week or so just because the process was going,” Fickell said Wednesday during an interview with ESPN Wisconsin’s Wilde & Tausch. “He sounded like a new man. And I'm not sure exactly if this was his choice, or what it is the future it looks like, but I know that we're going to have a visitor here that's going to spend a little bit of time, hopefully around us. Starting, coming up in the spring and some things like that, see how much, how deep we can get involved with my buddy and get him around here.”

Jack Del Rio joins Wisconsin staff as Luke Fickell adviser

Wisconsin has hired longtime NFL coach Jack Del Rio to its staff, where he will serve as senior adviser to Badgers coach Luke Fickell, the team told ESPN on Thursday.

Del Rio, the former Jaguars and Raiders coach, most recently served as Washington Commanders defensive coordinator until he was fired in November. He will work with both the offense and defense at Wisconsin and assist Fickell, who starts his second season at the school Friday against Western Michigan.

Fickell had hoped to have former Tennessee Titans coach Mike Vrabel, his close friend and former teammate at Ohio State, around the Wisconsin program this season. But Vrabel is serving as a coaching and personnel consultant for the Cleveland Browns.

Just sayin': Well, if you can't get Mike Vrabel, Del Rio is an excellent hire too.

Fickell has Wisky playing their classic ugly unwatchable, Iowa jr brand of football. I’m surprised because I thought he’d bring some of the creative concepts he had at UC.
Remember when people thought Rich Rod would come into the Big Ten with his style of offense and the Big Ten would never know how to stop it?
Also, I wonder how much Barry Alvarez is calling the shots?

Wisconsin quarterback Tyler Van Dyke will miss the rest of the 2024 season with a knee injury, according to multiple reports. The senior sustained an ACL tear in his right knee during the Badgers' 42-10 loss against Alabama, per ESPN's Pete Thamel.

Van Dyke exited the game on the first drive of the game when his knee buckled while he was tackled trying to convert a third-down opportunity. Alabama was called for a penalty on the play, which set up a Wisconsin field goal after the injury. Ultimately, the Badgers failed to create any consistent offense after Van Dyke went down.

Is fickell’s seat warming up in Cheese Angeles?
depends on what you mean

The kind of “warm“ the media talks about, where fans are squawking but there’s no real danger? That’ll happen if he loses to USC. The fans think UW is the bully ball team in the B1G and that they should be able to do what the cheaters did, especially after a bye week.

The kind of “warm” where he needs to check his contract for his buyout? That’ll happen if he loses the following week vs Purdue
