Really there's no reason to go from Windows 7 to 10 right now.
But if your machine died and you had no choice but an Windows 8 machine, then I think updating to 10 from 8 will make you happy.
That's what happened to me and I have had no issues with Windows 10 and love it.

Free W10 upgrades are good only for 1 yr.. maybe next August
biggest W10 issues I had were drivers, hardware compatibility and virus protection
Typical I lose access to some of my hardware with new gen op sys
I THINK I have some workarounds... like for my port replicator

I believe the clock started July 29th?

Plenty of time.

My main computer is a higher end gaming rig I built myself and I have a Windows 7 dvd for it. No bloat-ware at all. Love it. May never upgrade that one unless/until 100% necessary.

My garage computer is an Acer all-in-one touch screen with Windows 8. I don't like Windows 8. So that one will be upgraded at some point while its still free. Its basically just used as a jukebox and to post here drunk. And the occasional how-to video to fix one of my vehicles.

Sooner or later you get forced into it
either the hardware is no longer supported by your new op sys
or new apps or hardware won't work with the old op sys

The amount of 'perfectly good hardware' that Id had to recycle still pisses me off

The #1 group I detest is Dell support... that is, after I figure out what the hell they're saying

I've never played these games cuz I know me... and I'd be an absolute junkie... so I don't go there
my boys remind me.. when I see their addictions.. they both have world class set-ups...

The garage computer seemed to work fine last night. Maybe even a little better/quicker than Windows 8.1 or whatever it had. That computer is 100% stock though. I only use it for music, youtube "how-to" videos when I have to fix one of our vehicles and posting on BP. Really the only things loaded on it are kaspersky and firefox. But I had zero error messages and no driver problems yet.

I definitely liked the way Windows 10 was laid out more than Windows 8.

The computer I'm on now is one I built myself with Windows 7. High performance (as of a couple years ago) gaming rig. I'm a lot more hesitant to upgrade this one. Don't think I'm gonna do it until I'm forced to.

Should do it before the freebee upgrade is over end of July.. else.. there will be a day you'll be forced.. some app won't run or some piece of hardware .. and then you'll go to buy W10 and it'll be a million dollars

I mentioned earlier in this thread that I had set my laptop up dual boot with both Win7 and 10. As these fickle machines will do. it crashed earlier this week, so I took the plunge and formatted, and installed Win 10 by itself. It's the best this old machine has run in a long time!.
My only issues with 10 are just some personal preference issues, and I have to say that Microsoft got it right this time.
The one thing that really irritates me however, is that at the log-in screen, when signing in with my Microsoft account, it displays my email address. I know I can sign in using a local account instead to keep that happening, but then I have to sign in every time I want to use some of the features.
Has anyone found a way to keep the email address from being displayed on the log-in screen? I've been searching for a hack for 2 months and haven't found anything.

Right.....at the screen where it asks for my PIN, that's where it displays my email. Just wondering if there is a way to keep that hidden. Otherwise, I'm really liking it, and I'm no fan of Microsoft. I actually use Linux on several of my other computers.

I can't find how to enable Bluetooth in Windows 10. Supposedly it is located in the settings menu, makes sense right. However, it does not show up there for me. Anyone else have this issue or know how to get around it?
