I've upgraded both my comps, both wifey's comps and the step-kid's comp to Windows 10 and all went off without a hitch. Now, only two of those were store bought. The rest I built myself so they never had all the bull[Mark May] bloatware on them. The two store bought computers were running 8.1, the others Win 7...
Yeah, mine was store-bought also (a Dell from Costco about a year and a half ago, Windows 7).

Finally got the upgrade to work and am cruising around with the Edge browser. Holy [Mark May], it's way faster than IE and I haven't had a single instance (yet) of the browser stopping and having to "close and reopen the tab"...that was getting fairly common while browsing BP.
Well, so much for my initial infatuation with Edge. It has gotten to be extremely frustrating with the way it fucks with the ability to copy text from certain websites and pasting plain text into a BP post.

  1. Sometimes it just flat refuses to copy text at all from certain websites (I'll be able to copy text from the very same article on my workstations at work running IE11 on Windows 7). By refuse, I mean I'll click and drag text and no highlighting at all occurs. And then it'll eventually flat lock up and quit working on that tab/page. I'll either have to try and close the tab (which takes about 20-30 seconds sometimes) or when the tab won't close go into Task Manager and kill the entire browser session.
  2. When I paste plain text from Notepad (I usually put text from a website into a Notepad first to remove links and ensure I'm getting text only) into a post here on BP, it pastes in reverse fucking order of paragraphs, and either removes all CRs, or, adds an addition CR for each one already there.
  3. When manually typing in a BP post, many times it'll drop a ton of characters, or even flat out not type the characters at all and then beep after about 10-12 keystrokes, and then go into this weird loop like it's trying to reload the page in the background (I know BP uses a lot of AJAX to do behind-the-scenes polling). When it does that, I either have to force reload the page (which loses why I typed because the "save draft" function isn't working) or close the tab entirely.

What I have found most amusing is that, when I needed to download a specific MS Office 2013 component so I could regain access to my OneDrive Business account, I couldn't use Edge.

It was incompatible with the Microsoft website where I needed to get the download. Had to use IE. :slappy:

For anyone who loses drag and drop functionality, I've been fighting with this for a bit, trying a number of involved solutions (registry, applications, tablet mode, etc). Check into those as well, but I only found one place with this simple solution if it stops working:

Hit ESC. I saw some places saying to hold right click + ESC, but only just found the suggestion to hit ESC alone. I'm not sure what was wrong but this fixed the problem. Now I can drag and drop once more. Before the icons or files would be locked and immovable.

FWIW I believe the free upgrade from 7 and 8 ends at the end of this month
and in August a huge upgrade is coming for Windows 10

I know when folks upgrade.. many may lose access to some apps and hardware.. but it's all inevitable
sooner or later support for those lost apps and hardware will disappear anyway
and then you'll have to pay for Windows 10

rock and hard place

This happens to me in Outlook occasionally.

As does a staggering amount of the business world.

p.s. quality smiley usage there

There are systems running surprisingly high resolution imagery and other various systems that are still on ME and 98/95 around here. Of course, an "attraction" is still a row of original PS3s running games that were never good sellers to begin with, so...

Thankfully our workstations are running 7 now.
