William Buford Chasing the Scoring Record Tracker

When Buford went out with his 4th foul, that's win OSU made the run to take control of the game.
Matta even seemed reluctant to put him back in when Cincy was in full foul mode (and WB is a 80%+ FT shooter) and God knows we struggle at the FT line.

Buford stats last night:
1-8 from the field (1 made 3 and 1 FT) 4 points.
3 steals but 4 TO's, 1 assist, but he did have 5 boards.

WB we need you to show up on SAT!

Still at #4. He is 32 points behind Jerry Lucas.
13 points against Syracuse. Only needs 10 points in each of the next two games to become Ohio State's #3 leading scorer and a National Champion:)

He had a pretty good game, but after making his 1st 2 shots he was 1-10, but he had 9 rebounds, tied for the team lead.

Exactly. People need to let it go and stop with the not so subtle digs.

I'm the last person that wants to criticize Will unnecessarily. I've followed his game and progression since he signed with OSU out of Libbey and have cheered more for him than any other buckeye the last 4 years. Its been good to see his game progress and improve over the years and he has a high ceiling which i think the nba knows and likes about him.

The thing I hate watching is how he shies away when challenged and defenders get physical with him, he seems to lose his composure and can't regroup during the course of the game, and that results with the 4 and 8 pt games. And you can tell that other teams coaches have figured it out and have played him extra physical lately and I just wish he wouldn't back down and just go strong to the hole because I still think he's one the best talents that OSU has had in years and can put up 15 any night. Plus he has an NBA body and is built like a gazelle, with plenty of room for improvement which will only help him at the next level. I was encouraged with him though in the Elite 8 game because it seems he's figured out (or the coaches have told him) that he needs to toughen up a little and its seemed like he made an extra effort to do just that. The other thing is, being the lone senior, the other guys will naturally look for him for leadership (meaning in the way he composes himself in the heat of the battle) and as a leader, the WORST THING you can do is to look weak or back down from an opponent in front of your guys. I know some might not see basketball as a very physical game but there's a lot of intimidation and subtle movements and battles of the psyche on the court that many casual fans don't see or pay attention to. If you watch the past 15-20 games, you've seen thomas, craft, and sullinger take a bigger leadership lead and the more "tough" role on the team because they finally figured out Will isn't going to do it. Watch the tape if you dont agree, those guys don't back down and are especially tough in the paint going up in traffic (especially thomas who isn't big but plays big/tough) and if Will did that more, I think the sky is the limit for him. Oh how I would love to see him take a hard hit to the body and still hold on to the ball and still make a play, not just get tossed, lose the ball and flail whimsically away. Another good thing about WB is even if he's having an bad offensive game (like the SU game for example) he stays commited to the defensive side and guarding his man well, which he's been great at in the tournament. If anyone thinks I'm wrong on this or knows basketball really well, I want to hear your thoughts. I think once he breaks through those couple barriers his best games are still in front of him. I'll be cheering for him more than anyone to do it.

Mr. Buford ends his great Buckeye career tying Jerry Lucas at #3 on the all-time list.

nice finale for Will (obviously excepting the result), seemed like he was feeling it tonight and wished he could have got a few more shots down the stretch (ala at MSU)

William Buford was still in his OSU uniform past midnight, an hour after the game ended, as if he didn't want to take if off for the final time.
"It's over -- my last college game for me," Buford said in a tone of disbelief. "I've been playing college basketball for four years and now it's over. It's crazy."

Buford scored 19 points last night to finished his career with 1,990 -- tying Jerry Lucas for third place on OSU's all-time scoring list.He surpassed Kelvin Ransey as the school's all-time leader in field goal attempts (1,689).

"I don't know if I can put into words what he's meant to this program," Matta said. "I watched him mature, watched him grow as a person, watched him grow as a player. I'm proud of him. I'm happy for him. He's helped us build this basketball program into something special."

Questions about his poor shooting have followed William Buford like a bloodhound of late, but the Ohio State senior guard took the queries in stride heading into last night. He said all he cared about was winning.
Buford had been mired in an offensive slump since he scored 25 and hit the game-winning shot against Michigan State in the regular season finale.

The Toledo native entered the Kansas game having made only 25 of 78 shots (32 percent) in three Big Ten tournament games and four NCAA tournament games. He had made just 12 of 44 three-point attempts (27 percent) in the nine games before last night.

Buford found his shooting stroke against the Jayhawks. He made six of 10 shots from the field -- including three of five three-pointers -- and all four of his free throw attempts to finish with a team-high 19 points. He also grabbed seven rebounds.

"I'm happy we made it this far, but I would have loved to have made it to the championship game," Buford said. "Hopefully I can go down as one of the greatest ever to play at Ohio State, If that would be my legacy, that would be great."

What a great final game against Kansas for Buford. You could tell from the tip that win or lose he was gonna leave it all on the court. And we all saw how good he can be when he's aggressive, attacking, and confident. That putback slam was awesome and great to see from him! Great to see and I sure enjoyed watching WB the last 4 years and wish him the best of luck in his future :)

Hope I'm not breaking any rules but heres a great article on Buford on another bucks site.
