And the front page of SI.com yesterday was the last pick in the 5th round.cincibuck;824966; said:I log on to Road Runner, the screen comes up, NFL Draft, and who's there? Not Ted Ginn, Not Leon Hall, Not Jamarcus Russell, not the Browns first pick or the Bengals, but Brady Quinn wearing an SEG on top of his Stetson cologne and John Edwards hair do...
That's the story! The twenty second pick in the draft, the SECOND pick on the Browns' list and who knows how much farther he would have fallen if the Browns had passed him up for something they really needed, and he gets top bill.
I want to go practice my projectile vomiting...

You guys get too filed up over shit like that.
I'm sure we're going to lose a recruit and ND will gain one b/c of Quinn showing up on an internet site.
Get a grip.
cincibuck;825748; said:Hmmmm, I wonder why companies have PR departments? I wonder why advertising is so expensive? Does marketing work? I wonder why Paul Hornung won the Heisman?
Believe what you want, Thump, the benefit to ND for this kind of stuff is tremendous. Kids do buy sneakers cause Mikey is on the box.

BTW, better go bitch to Yahoo, Quinn's on their main page right now.
The sky is FALLING!!!!!!!!!
Troy is not faultless in his plummeting draft stock and NFL marketability.cincibuck;825816; said:It's a part of marketing and sometimes you get free marketing, like when Troy wins the Heisman. And sometimes you get screwed like when you outplay Brady Quinn face to face and he still gets the press.
a) When was the last OT that was a marketing boom?Where was Jamarcus Russell's picture? He was the first damn pick.
Where were the pics for the Ohio market area of the players drawn BEFORE Brady Quinn, you know, like maybe a certain tackle from Wisconsin?
1) Most thought Russell would be the first pick. That's free marketing for Notre Dame football. That's saying that the story of this draft begins with the selection of Brady Quinn. It's why so many experts believed he was going to be the first pick, all but assurred it, because Notre Dame marketing is strong.
Ohio State capitalizes on this fickle nature of HS students as well.Maybe it wouldn't affect your choice of school, but you'd be amazed of the impact it has on high school kids. Look around the school where you're at right now. How many kids suddenly showed up with something with the Florida logo on it? How many kids with no where near the GPA or money to even sniff at Notre Dame walk around in an Irish T-shirt? Why do you think OSU spends a ton of money on a marketing department?

And no one, except you, said the sky was falling,
I said, in context, that Notre Dame gets a shit pot of free marketing from the press for doing diddly squat and that gets tiring.
