Who would you rather play in the BCS Championship Game?

Tellshow has the top 4 projected thusly:

1 - Ohio State
2 - Virginia Tech
3 - LSU
4 - Georgia

Now, Tellshow is normally pretty good at these projections - but is far from infallible. Especially when the relative margins are small. Last week, for instance, Tellshow over-rated LSU's projected position in the coaches poll. At that time it resulted in a projected 5 spot being reduced to the #7 slot in the BCS.

This week, the margin for error in Tellshow's projection is razor thin.

Virginia Tech is projected to an overall lead above LSU of just 0.02 points in the computer polls. Also, the projected Coaches Poll and Harris Interactive rankings are flipped, with Coaches having VT at 2, LSU at 3, HI having LSU in the 2 spot.

As few as 7 Coaches votes, or 15 HI voters flipping from VT to LSU would overcome a 0.02 edge for VT in the computer polls.

If the computer polls are actually even closer, say 0.01, then all it needs is 4 Coaches and 7 HI voters to flip.

Highly Volatile.
He has a pretty good formula for a 6 team playoff in there too.

I think the most deserving candidates to face the Buckeyes are LSU, USC, and Oklahoma. Those are the 2-loss teams that won their (BCS) conferences.

Note that, for discussion purposes only and for this season only, I don't consider the Big Least and Atlantic Coasting Conference to be BCS conferences.

Why is Oklahoma not given any love? Their victory in the B12 championship was probably the most impressive game of the past 3 weeks, the Buckeyes' dismantling of Michigan notwithstanding.

Hopefully there is a sense of fairness involved in this process and it's clear that the only fair matchup would be OSU's first team against OSU's second team.

Also, I think that a Heisman trophy should not be awarded this year due to the lack of a deserving player. They could then award 2 Heismans next year to Beanie Wells.

From Matthew Zemek in your link:

Since conference championships are a prerequisite for national title game participants, Georgia still can't make the cut (although an idea world would involve a playoff in which the Dawgs could play for the title). If the BCS didn't exist, the best title game the sport could hope for would be LSU-USC, the matchup everyone outside Columbus would love. The champions of the SEC and Pac-10, college football's two best conferences, would create a title tilt worthy of the bright lights in the Big Easy.

When will these "journalists" realize that it is not a prerequisite for a team to win its conference to be in the BCSNC game? The BCS rule ONLY states that the top 2 teams in the BCS standings will play for the national championship:

BCS Rules said:
1. The top two teams in the final BCS Standings shall play in the National Championship Game.

does anyone think that injury will play a part in the decision? Flynn has a torn rotator cuff. I don't see how he could play in a bowl game. Will the human voters send a team to a title game with a back up Freshman QB?

Perrilloux is a 3rd-year sophomore that played well yesterday, so I don't see that being a consideration at all. If anything on the injury front matters to voters, they'll think that LSU will be better with a healthy Dorsey, but I don't think injuries will be a factor in the voting.

Nope... LSU has snatched the "media darling" tag away from USC this year. I will just about guarantee LSU will back their way into the BCSMNC game.

LSU getting in would be the true definition of "backing in". Jumping from #7 to #2 just seems next to impossible to me, yet it is (more than likely) going to happen.

"But LSU beat VT and Georgia didn't win their conference!" (<-- not towards you BTID, towards the media)

The system will be (more of) a joke if LSU jumps that many spots... at best they should be #5 (ahead of Missouri and West Virginia, behind Ohio State, Georgia, Kansas, and VT)... an argument can be for #4 ahead of VT since they beat them earlier this year. If the media, voters, etc. want the conference champion to be in the MNC game then why not vote them that way to begin with? Oklahoma, LSU, VT, and USC should all have been ahead of Georgia and Kansas going into yesterday then all of them should jump Missouri and West Virginia in today's polls. Any bets Georgia still ends up 4th ahead of conference champions Oklahoma and USC?
