Who will be tOSU's head coach on July 1, 2012? (betting closed)

Why would we care if he wants to run the 3-4. It's working for Bama...
The south has a lot more nose tackle prospects, and more importantly, they don't have to worry about silly concerns like admission standards or scholarship limits.

If he doesn't qualify, sign and place him.

If he does qualify, sign and enroll him...

...unless another guy qualifies, then send him to prep school anyway.

Any interest in former Dawgs defensive back and Alabama DC Kirby Smart?
Many years working under Saban and a pretty good coach.

He was rumored to be UGA's top choice if they released CMR. Would probably want OSU to play 3-4 defense though...

Not bad, although he does not have any head coaching experience. As we know from posters on this board, the position of head coach at Ohio State is not one for on the job training. Count him out.

A cutting rebuttal. :roll1: Which MAC offers has Luke Fickell received so far?

I feel like Luke has almost no chance. Not because he isn't competent, but because this entire season will need put behind everyone.

Is it likely that Gene Smith/Gordon Gee are gone after this season, and the new President/AD will want to bring in their "own" coach? I'm asking for those of you that have a better feel for the situation than I do.

I don't think Fick is gone because of Miami/Neb/Sparty/Purdue, I really feel like he was going to have to go 10-3 and at least get to the CCG. All the good momentum that started with the Illinois game seems to be gone, which is why I think Luke will be.

I would much rather retain him than go get a completely unproven/inexperienced guy like Boeckmen.

But, if Urban wants it, it's probably his, right? The guy will immediately help recruiting, for the most part people seem to like him, would be a good guy to help rebuild the image.

I sure don't see him going to Penn State.

Smart recruits in the South and I'm sure he could pull some guys out of there. Besides, I think Big Hank could fill the nose... I don't particularly want Smart, just saying it could work if he wanted to run a 3-4.

I'm guessing sarcasm...but do you seriously believe there is no "image rebuilding" to be done?

After the utter mis-handling of the various issues this past year by the AD and the President, not to mention that months after this whole thing blew up, several players made similar poor decisions, furthering the current belief that the school is dirty.

I do agree that E$PiN completely blew this out of proportion, obviously.

I do. Penn State has "image rebuilding" to do. Ohio State just needs to get through a rough year and get back to winning.

Also, people should just stop wasting their time suggesting coaches that have zero ties to Ohio. It's not going to happen.

If tOSU asked for resumes for the head coach job how many do you think they will get? Do you think it will attract candidates nationally?

Was Glen Mason the only nationally recognized coach to apply the last time?

We had this discussion a few months back prior to the whole Tressel debacle.

AFAIK, there were murmurs that Mike Belotti and Jon Gruden were in the running. But all the focus was on Tressel and Mason was a distance off.

So, I'm a current 2nd year at tOSU, and I'll be graduating in the spring of '13 (a full year early), and was pondering how weird it would be to have a different coach all 3 years I was a student (Assuming Fickell is not retained).

So, I decided to do a little research and see if it had happened before in the history of Buckeye football, and lo and behold I made a pretty neat find.

In 1910, Howard Jones was the head coach. In 1911, Harry Vaughan was the head coach. And in 1912, John R. Richards was the head coach.

In 2010, Tressel was the coach of course. In 2011, Fickell is the coach, of course. And there's the possibility for a new one in 2012.

Meaning a full century later, history was repeating itself (Obviously under 100% completely different circumstances).

Just thought that would be neat to share.

In honor of the great game he coached this past Saturday, and his great career as a high school football coach, I nominate Chuck Kyle. Of course I'm only joking, but if STO shows a reply of the St. Ed/Ignatius game, record it and just watch the last half of the third and fourth quarters. Ignatius was down 17-3 in the 3rd to a way more talented team, and came back to win 20-17. There was just no way, a coach could have possibly made better adjustments.

BTW, I did not attend St. Ignatius.

My list of preferences now looks like this, in order. I have not considered likelihood they'd accept in compiling the list. I've excluded only pro coaches with established positions.

Tier One

Nick Saban
Pete Carroll
Urban Meyer
Bill Cowher
Jon Gruden

Tier Two

Chris Peterson
Gary Patterson
Al Golden
Mike London
Tony Dungy

Tier Three

Mark Dantonio
Gus Malzahn
Larry Kehres
Mike Leach
Bobby Petrino
Bob Stoops

Don't want anyone not on this list.
