Who will be tOSU's head coach on July 1, 2012? (betting closed)

I can't help but smile at the thought of Gruden's wit, sarcasm and charm as the spokesman of OSU FB (against the ongoing media storm), let alone his coaching acumen. It's not happening, but dreams are rarely driven by logic.

For those wishing for tough love for any player who violates a team rule, I expect you would get that with Gruden (or Pelini). Imagine the conversation between Gruden and the Tat 5 if he had received those emails back last year? I say conversation because I expect there would only be one discussion on this topic and the only person talking would be Gruden.

My guess, and I would put $ on it, Urban Meyer will be our next coach.

urban meyer is a slightly more polished rich rodriguez. a gimmick without a tebow is just a gimmick.

if you wanna continue to be the northern pipeline to the pros (tm), you gotta keep a pro style offense in place.

Chris Leak won a national title under Urban Meyer. That team beat the shit out of our Buckeyes.

I feel like you're underestimating Urban Meyer a lot. I'm not a big fan of the guy, but he's been very successful everywhere he's been.

they did it with defense, not offense. and that defense would've been there with urban meyer or without. the D coordinator from those years later went on to the NFL.

we're seeing the future already in the SEC. the future being that only saban can deal with a well coached pro style offense. the rest are clueless including LSU. that hasn't escaped florida either, that's why they went and got charlie weiss.

Winning with defense is no gimmick. And that offense scored at will against our defense.

Basically, I can't justify downplaying a national championship win with Chris Leak as the QB. A national championship is a national championship. And he's won multiple. And he's won everywhere he's been. Hell of a coach.

It would be interesting to see if a spread offense implemented by Urban Meyer would be successful in the Big Ten. Rich Rod didn't do to well at TSUN but then again he didn't really have the right players he needed.

Urban would help us get some more Florida recruits, no doubt.

Heck, he turned Alex Smith into a #1 pick!

Just curious, of all the head coaching hires that Gene Smith has made at Ohio State -- regardless if it's actually an assistant AD who does it (it's his department -- which ones can be deemed successes?

Wrestling - Tom Ryan

Are the others too soon to call?

I'm greatly concerned because I don't think Smith is a leader (but more of an CFO, not CEO). He hired Dirk Koetter and Dan McCarney at his former jobs (but those schools are not Ohio State). I just hope it's a very distinguished hiring committee (not him alone).

Or Luke does well and avoid the process.

Has anyone mentioned Gary Patterson of TCU yet? Wouldn't be a bad hire IMO, but that would be catastrophic for TCU football.

When I search this thread, his name is at the top of post #29. :wink2:
