Who will be tOSU's head coach on July 1, 2012? (betting closed)
Who knows... apparently no search until December? what the [censored], Gene?
I think it's to give Coach Fickell a tryout and go from there.

But with Gene Smith who knows. I've always thought he's more of a "money guy" than a leader (IMO).

Has Ohio State and TSUN ever restarted with a new coach in the same exact season (like right now).

I don't recall this ever happening.

Not since 1929, Harry Kipke for TSUN and Sam Willaman for tOSU.

I don't actually recall it, either. Or the similar occurrences in 1892 and 1897.

Ohio State is one of the best jobs in sports, not just football. And, football is the identity of OSU. A lot on the line for Buckeye nation

Jay Bilas tweet, and I agree 100%. This job isn't going to a (relative) unknown, like when JT came from YSU. It will be someone that is proven with a body of work. I'm all for Meyer, if his health is set for the long term.

I just wonder if the university wants a clean break.

Sometimes you see organizations want a clean break (no association). Other times you don't (like Kiffin being hired at USC).

I don't know if Fickell would be allowed to hire someone new (new assistants) until he gets the full-time job, even though it may be needed.

The university may not want to hire a new assistant for one year and the new coach not retaining the assistant. But who knows.

I can't help but smile at the thought of Gruden's wit, sarcasm and charm as the spokesman of OSU FB (against the ongoing media storm), let alone his coaching acumen. It's not happening, but dreams are rarely driven by logic.
