Who now for the title game?

I have a feeling USC won't lose to Cal at home:

Then it'll likely be:
OSU/scUM versus ND/USC winner or Florida

I'll be shocked if Arkansas doesn't beat UF regardless of what happens between Ark and LSU. UF and ND are the two biggest pretenders remaining.

USC needs to lose just to shut Mark May up. I'm not in favor of a rematch, I didn't want to play Texas again and I don't want to play Michigan again. Who I think we would play from most likely to least likely:

1-loss SEC winner
1-loss USC
Undefeated Rutgers
1-loss NoD
Rematch with TSUN

I'm sticking with my Rutgers vote, if they win out.

A couple of weeks ago, after USC lost, West Virginia was in a position to go to the national championship game if they stayed undefeated. Then, fellow Big East and undefeated Louisville beat West Virginia. Louisville moved into a spot to probably go to the national championship game, if they won out. Then, another undefeated Big East team, Rutgers, beat Louisville. But they have practically no chance to make it to the national championship game.

How is it that two Big East teams could have made it to the national championship game, if they were undefeated, but a third Big East team, in the same situation, could not?

I'm not saying that Rutgers is the best or second best or third or fifth or tenth best team in the country. I think that they'll lose whatever BCS bowl game they go to. But what more could they possibly do in order to make it to the national championship game? If an undefeated team in a BCS conference gets left out of the national championship game, in favor of a 1-loss team, it would be far worse than when Auburn was kept out.

Even if rutgers wins out i would rather see the bucks play a good team like USC. Fla did not get a quality win last night. they drop. Texas and Cal lost; bye bye. If USC wins out they are my pick. But who I would really like to see us play now is ND. Yup , I want to beat the snot out of Weis and Quinn so the whole world can see.

Screw ND. I want them to go to the least bowl possible. I hope that USC beats them so bad they get left out of the BCS and lose to a team in the Gator Bowl.......anything to slowly show the public, and recruits, that ND isn't what they think they are.

Give me Rutgers if they go undefeated. I honestly think if they win out, they deserve it as much as anyone, sans maybe a 1 loss USC/Ark, and it would be the easiest game for Ohio State IMO.

That's exactly what I had mind when we beat them , oh say 56 - 0 that would be ok in my book. Plus JT shows up Weis AGAIN, Smith shows up BQ again.
Life can be good :io:

Interesting when you are looking at this weeks rankings and in all three human
polls have to drop all the way to 6th to find your first candidate for the second spot in the NC game.

This is where OSU and Michigan get a bad break playing so late. If the game were last week the loser would likely not have dropped below 5th or 6th and would now bel in position to take second with a loss by Florida or USC.

I have been dismissing Arkansas til last night. I didn't think they could do that. My best friend is a huge Florida fan who watches all their games and knows how banged up they are. He doesn't think they could take Arkansas in the SEC championship game.

Still, no way does Arkansas go ahead of a one loss winner of the USC/ND game. But that aside, I take a team that beat LSU, Tennessee, Florida and Auburn ahead of Rutgers.

I forget what WVU's non conference schedule was. If it was a joke, then you are right. But if not, then it's because Rutger's non Big East foes were horrible.

WVU played Marshall, Buffalo, Maryland, Mississippi State, and East Carolina...so 1/5

Rutgers played Howard, Illinois, Buffalo, North Carolina, and Navy

Louisville played Kentucky, Temple, Miami, Kansas State, and Middle Tennessee.

I think it will be us and USC/ND winner.

I agree because the next "up" team would be Ark and they won't move up enough even if they win out

I don't see Notre Dame jumping Michigan, period. Despite the media's love affair with them, our blowout was sufficiently high profile to keep us above them in the polls, and they can't jump us in the computers. Their only shot is if OSU loses in a blowout.

As for Rutgers, they've got almost no chance. I don't think they can jump a 1 loss Michigan/OSU in the computers. They'd need a #2 ranking in the polls to overcome this, and I expect the pollsters would be sufficiently divided to vote them only 4th at best.

My take on everyone's chances:

1 loss Florida/Arkansas
1 loss USC
1 loss Michigan
1 loss OSU/Notre Dame

Florida, Arkansas, and USC all have 2 games left that they could easily lose.

Why I'm rooting for a championship game rematch?

  1. It guarantees a national championship for the Big 10.
  2. Such hugely high profile games would help recruiting.
  3. If there was ever a year that a OSU-Michigan game needed to be played on a neutral field, it's this one.
