Who now for the title game?

Quite surprising when you look at the margins in those "one loss" games:

ND by 14
Texas by 17
Auburn by 17
Arkansas by 36
Cal by 17
Florida by 10

Among the contenders only USC losing by two can argue they were in a winnable game - and that one was not as close as the score indicates.

Really remarkable when you think about it.

I guess that's why I remarked.

And another good argument for the OSU-Michigan loser should that be a close game.

A couple of significant comments on this.

First, Notre Dame lost by 26.

Second, Florida was down by 1 until Auburn kicked a FG with 31 seconds left. Then the gave up a defensive TD on a multiple lateral play when they were desperate in the last 20 seconds. So they were in that game right up to the last minute, although it ended up a 10 point game.

Looks like things have sorted themselves out nicely.

Will it be the Florida/Arkansas winner or the USC/ND winner? Any of these four who win out would get my vote.

Or do we now add Wake Forest and Boise St to Rutgers as wannabees?

Loser of OSU/Michigan is starting to look like a real possibility.

It was a huge day for the chances of ND, Arkansas, and a tOSU-TSUN rematch.

My current top 7 (based on the whole season to date, and not a prediction of tomorrow's BCS):

tOSU
TSUN
Florida
USC
Arkansas
Rutgers
ND

Teams that still don't have a chance at the Championship Game (Wiscy, West Va., Boise State, Louisville and Wake Forest)

If USC wins out, I will jump them over a 1-loss Florida. They almost control their own destiny.

Arkansas needs to win out and have USC lose, since USC beat them 50-14 at Arkansas in the opener.

I think if ND beats USC, I'll jump them over an undeated Rutgers team.

Rutgers needs USC to lose to either Cal or UCLA, and beat ND. They also need Florida and Arkansas to each lose another game, and have a blowout in The Game to have a chance to move to #2.

Notre Dame Got drilled by Michigan at home...
I think at this point I might have Arkansas ahead of Florida.
I think they are the best team in the SEC at the moment...
And Arkansas also got drilled at the beginning of the season be even more against USC. I would still put Florida in front of Arkansas and ND at this point, despite the close games they've played. The SEC final game will sort it out, and the ND/USC game will also kick one team out, then of course the Michigan/OSU game coming up. Quite a scenario, the top teams are gonna knock each other out.
If we had a close game against scUM I don't see anyway that they could take ND over us...
How does the big game work? I was under the impression that two teams from the same conference couldn't be represented in the big bowl games.

Oddly enough, I think that the picture is now more clear. My WAG at the BCS top 8 this week is:

tOSU
tsun
Florida
USC
Notre Lame
Rutgers (they will make a big move in the computers)
WVU
Arkansas

All we can say is that Florida is in the driver's seat for two weeks. They play I-AA Western Carolina next week.

If USC wins out, my opinion is that they deserve to play in the title game.

Notre Lame won't deserve it even if they win out, but the lovefest will reach a fever pitch if they beat USC. Go Trojans.

Rutgers. Stop laughing, because it's more than possible. The trip to Morgantown might actually mean something huge. WVU could be on the verge of climbing back in, and we could see a scenario where that game is for a spot in the title game.

Arkansas will move up if they can win between now and the SEC CCG, though they'll still need some help. The Cal > USC > ND sequence has to occur. Same goes for Rutgers/WVU.

For a college football season that was looking fairly dull, things have gotten a whole lot more interesting.

It does seem that no one wants to play Ohio State, though.

Well it was bound to happen. We saw what happens when your star QB goes out with Texas. Colt McCoy means a TON to Texas, but we didn't quite know how much until tonight.

USC looks like a different team right now. I don't think any of their remaining schedule will stop them, although Oregon should've been closer than 35-10 too.

ND ehh...

Arkansas is the best team in the SEC right now.

I would think, nevermind if Ohio State wins this weekend, that I would want to see a rematch in January.

This week:
#3 Louisville drops out
#4 Texas drops out
#5 Auburn drops out
#6 Florida weakens their chances
#7 USC jumps up
#8 California drops out
#9 ND jumps up
#10 Rutgers comes in

USC has looked especially shitty the weeks leading up to their inevitable loss. I wouldn't want to see them in the NC the way they were barely escaping unranked Pac 10 opponents mid-season.

ND is over-rated and I think the thrashing Michigan gave them away early in the season. ND has skated by, defeating horrible opponents, some of them barely (Mich St. and UCLA).

If Cal beats USC and USC beats ND, I'll be in happy-land.

Ohio State would play either Michigan, Florida or FEEL GOOD TEAM OF THE YEAR - RUTGERS

I would thoroughly enjoy an Ohio State v. Rutgers NC game. Probably more-so than I would Ohio State v. Michigan and Ohio State v. Florida.

USC in control because they play ranked teams. even if FL wins out USC's win (especially a win over ND) will boost them big in the computer polls.

I saw Pete Carroll's coaching last year in the Rose Bowl. be glad to see him come to Glendale.

think the Hogs are in trouble against LSU. LSU is a beast - and if anyone can stop Darren McFaddin it'll be the Tigers.

Thanksgiving weekend is going to have some great great football as the BCS sorts out who will lose to Ohio State on Jan 8!

About that Arkansas lose to USC.

McFadden hardly played at all and Mustain also didnt play.

They kep the game close for a while but couldnt get enough yards to get a first down, which led to USC with many chances to blow the game open.

I know you can't make excuses and many pollsters probably don't know all of this, but still Arkansas has played some good football and if they win out they should be right there in the thick of things at the end...
