Which CB Will Replace Fox?

I can't understand how people can say Tony Gonzalez can play both ways, but Teddy can't. Maybe I'm ignorant, but that makes no sense to me whatsoever.

I didn;t see anyone proclaim it as gospel...more of a discussion bone to throw out....

Maybe I'm ignorant, but I say no to both

Heisman thats not what their saying. They are saying Teddy can defense but they think he is more valuable on offense.

This is a great conversation with some very good opinions.

Everytime Teddy touches the ball he could take it to the house. IMO Bush and Ginn are the most explosive players in the country and Hester is up there as well.

Its very tempting to look at our defense with Ginn and say...damn thats scary.

Then I look at the offense with 3 Runningbacks that are sub 4.45 and three wrs that are sub 4.45 and say damn!!!!!!

This team could be very very scary. Ted Ginn is a positive dilemma...

I want Ginn full time offense but I'm worried about the other CB spot.

Don't be.

This year we had two contain DE's and a young, inexperienced rotation at DT.

Fraser and Kudla were one in the same...they were going to make EVERY play they should/were expected to make...but very few they should not/weren't expected to make....basically neither was a playmaker. Now we have a number of young Speed guys coming thru that can blow up a play even if they are not in the best position...and the LB corps to back up/cover those players.

The CBs this year were exposed because of terrible help up front....

You could put 4 HOF players in a secondary, but give any QB pressure-free time to throw, and even those guys are in trouble.

The evolution of the front 4 will help that new CB...

Grad do you think Barrow and Gholston will make noise at DE? Barrow tore it up at the N/S and Big33 games. What do you think?

Yes...I was very surprised and very disappointed neither saw significant time in obvious throwing situations. Fraser nor Kudla proved to be a consistent pass-rush threat.

Why not bring in those guys and let them run like hell?

I agree he is more valuable on O, just like Chris Gamble was more valuable on D in 2002. But, Gamble also made some huge plays on O., specifically @ Wisconsin and in the NC vs Miami. If he's good enough to play both, then you have to get him out there. No?

Grad I was shocked I didn't see both on the field this year. Gholston got some PT and Barrow R.S. Barrow is a scary talent that is never mentioned when people are predicting the 2-deep. Gholston has scary measurables I assume he hasn't completely made the trasition from H.S. to college ball. Marcel Frost seems to be lost in the depth chart as well. We need a DE opposite Kudla to become a speed rusher.

At the end of last season Kudla was coming up big with the pressure and rarely if ever lost contain. Remember he lost a lot of time to that terrible illness and I think we only got to see about 5 games worth of what Mike can really do. His improvement this season as well as Pitcock, Richardson, Penton and Patterson will only help our blitz packages and combined coverage in the secondary.

Whomever starts at CB will get pushed athletically all season. We will be fine on Defense. Besides with Teddy on offense putting up 30+ per game the defense has more room for error.

I can't see JT taking a chance on a true freshman at corner.

Underwood played Corner as a True Frosh.

Yeah, and he sucked so bad they had to resort to putting in a WR who never player down on defense in at corner. Fortunately for us the move worked out great, but that doesn't change the fact that true freshmen who can play solid corner at D-IA level are all but non-existant.

Gamble was a near non-factor at WR in 2002. Which "huge play" did he make at Wisconsin? Michael Jenkins was the one who caught our opening TD on the slant and go, and then the 3rd and long bomb for a crucial first down. Gamble's only big play in the NC game was the bomb for a first down, and that was more due a blown coverage by the corner. Gamble had both hands on the ball in the infamous PI play, and should've caught it...we're lucky that Porter had the guts to make the right call. Gamble was never a real receiving threat.

I think he was overrated as a receiving threat, but he definitely was still a good receiver. Once he was stretched to 100+ plays his ability to catch and run as well as run back kicks was diminished (which was why I was glad to see Jenkins fill that role later on). But let's not discount that he was a threat as a WR that opened up the door for Holmes to torch scUM.
