I'd like to see whitner over there...... his tackling ability would be huge on the corner of the defense! we'd have a very sound tackling defense thats for sure!! I just don't know what his cover skills are like? I'm sure he could gaurd me while he was on his death bed but college kids I dunno?

He's already proven that he's the latest hard hitter to emerge from the buckeye SS position (Doss, Allen). His capacity to blow up a player and ding him up with hit after hit could make up for any coverage issues he might have.

Everett didn't seem to lose a step at either CB or S when he was put in those positions. I love the depth and skill we have at S that would enable the experienced Everett or Whitner to slide over to CB. Couple that with the impact many believe O'Neal will have his freshman year in addition to all teh under the radar guys, I don't think we'll have the same struggles depth wise that we did this year (especially if the underwoods stay on campus).

Lost of times it's not the corner but the safety who makes the bigger hits on receivers. And if a corner has to reply on hard hits to make up "coverage issues", then he's not going to be a good corner.

I stand corrected.

Originally when Clarity started this site he was gonna check with teh compliance office about getting input from a few players on this site. Did that ever happen? Did it get ruled illegal? Or did we just fail to keep up those contacts with players?

I'd love to hear what the early rumblings are that have seen all of the unseen players play corner. Plus I'd love to hear how well Ginn did covering our talented WRs during the December practices.

if underwood can go he will start. if he can't, im putting money on whitner.

as much as it pains me to say this. i do think ginn will play some d next year. i don't think he will start unless underwood can't go, whitner gets beat up, and there is noone else to step up. but i think he will get a shot in a game to play some cb. with both jr and sr pushing for a shot at cb. he is 100% going to atleast get a look early in the season. if we blow out miami (OH) early look for him to play a couple of series in the 3rd/4th qt. but i figure that will be about it. unless he is an absolute phenom at the position and worlds better than who we have at the spot, he won't start.

i think tressel will be willing to give him a look at the postion he wants to play so badly. but i don't think there is any chance on earth he will beat out a legit guy to play the position even if he is significantly better. if the guy he is competing against can get the job done it won't matter how much better ginn is, he won't see the cb spot. he is just flat out to valuable at wr and special teams.

i keep hearing people say "you play him both ways and make sure he gets his touches on offense". his impact on offense is vastly greater than what he does with the ball in his hands. his threat as a decoy is immesurable. ask gonzo, he'll tell you . alamo bowl anyone? the better ginn gets at being a wr, the more we will see plays like that. ginn is the type of player that while he might not be making the play. is making the play happen.

how fast do you think scraping lb's and safteys will stop dead in their tracks pursueing what appears to be a sweep play when ginn streaks back towards the qb on what might be a reverse? how about this one for ya. ginn was a qb in highschool. zwick/smith hands off to the tb who hands off to ginn who fires a bomb to holmes. how many fake misdirection plays to ginn will it take before the saftey's start hesitating? how much of a hesitation does it take for ginn to get around the corner and beat the safties angle again? get ginn the touches he needs on offense to win the game and play him on d... HA! keep him in on o every single flippin down! don't let him out of the game while we have the ball EVER! let the other team urinate down their legs trying to figure out what to do when we roll out with holmes, ginn, gonzo, hall, and nicol/hamby with an empty backfield. pick your poison chief .

I think we are going to see Salley and Everett at the safties and Whitner and Youboty at the corners.
if whitner can make the switch (he didn't play much corner in high school irregardless of what certain gurus say) and ej isn't back or up to snuff, this is the most likely starting four.

gotta get your best four back there and salley, everett, whitner, and youboty are the best four we got now.

i think gonzo and/or ginn could help, but it isn't especially likely.

I think the only way TGII plays on D is in 3rd and long passing situations as the nickelback. Obviously the kid is a special talent, but the fact of the matter is that he made our offense click last season and we can't afford to play him full time on both sides of the ball. Having said that, I can definitely see the benefit of putting him in there as the nickel or dime back when we know the opponent has to throw the ball...

If Whitner were unable play CB, I guess you turn to O'neal.

I think honestly now that I think of it that I'd like to see one of the safties be the other corner. Everett or Whitner IMO would be excellent boundry players. They can tackle very well, and if needed we can always give them more help with a saftey because we know Youboty won't need the safty help AS MUCH. I'd say either way we'll be just fine at corner IMO.

Unless someone else other than Youboty steps it up at corner I think we will see Whitner there. Everett started a couple games early on at saftey and did very well in there and can replace Whitner at that position. I think Ginn will see some time on D with or without an injury to one of the starters. Possibly on 3rd/4th and long. We will see. Lets hope that Underwood pulls through and can perform at cb.

I hope Ginn can get in on a few plays on D this year even though it is more risky from an injury perspective. You have to keep your best players on the field. If he can give us that extra advantage on D lets do it. I want to see what he can do with a couple INTs. His conditioning is superb. He can handle playing 10-15 defensive plays a game.
