Which CB Will Replace Fox?

I think you are drastically discounting the type of man TG1 happens to be. He is not vindictive and petty as your statement implies.
Wasn't implying that at all, just merely stating the obvious here. He has been quoted in many publications as to what he invisions for his son on the football field. It's not a big secret. My statement merely was a reflection of that, don't read so much into it next time.

Wouldn't you agree that JT at least OWES any player the opportunity to compete at a position he wants to play? Well, TG wants to play both ways, and IMO would beat out his competition at the second corner spot.

That statement is 100% accurate, but it has nothing to do with the situation. Teddy wants to play both ways and more importantly his father wants him to play both ways.

It has absolutely everything to do with the situation. You play your players at the position at which they are best...period. What players and family personally want is irrelevant. You don't hurt your offense by moving the most dangerous WR in the country over to defense just to make him or his dad happy. Besides, both Ginns are mature enough to know that Tressel's keeping Ginn on offense exclusively is done in the best interests of the team.

His pass coverage skills are unsurpassed but his knowledge of the college game is not. It took him 6 games to really learn WR(WHICH IS REALLY NOT HIS POSITION). The kid has the abilty but needs to "learn" the position. The physical aspect is natural and I'm sure the mental part will be there by August/September. Ginn Sr. has even said that Teddy is alot better at CB than he WR.

He needed this year to add some strength so he can jam receivers and fight for the ball in the air. I have started to really think about this and I'm torn on what the staff should do. Whatever they decide I'm behind them 100%.

I can't see JT taking a chance on a true freshman at corner.

Underwood played Corner as a True Frosh.

If you want to get your best athletes on the field it is hard to beat Whitner, Youboty, Salley and Evertt. Depth seems better at Safety so I like the idea of moving Whitner.

I say Ginn will play some DB. I am as sure of that as I was that Zwick would play as a true Frosh and Fox would someday move to Corner.

I think its gonna come down to if the coaches feel comfortable with Fox's replacement. If they feel we are vulnerable Ginn will be on deefense.

I could see Ginn playing CB at Michigan and IN the NC if we make it. If we are playing SC we will need the best DB's on the field. Ginn will get no rest in those 2 games if we are undefeated.

Let me play Devil's Advocate here....

I have faith in Teddy as a phenomenal athlete....

However, as shown by his first few games at WR, one cannot get by on just pure athleticism in major CFB.

Shutting down WRs in major D1 is VERY different from lining up across from someone at Glenvile and knowing the other coach or QB is not dumb enough to try you...

If Teddy does play any defense...expect growing pains.

I read a quote from Deion Sanders where he talked about winning 2/3 of the time as a DB...that is 66% from possibly the greatest man-to-man coverage corner of our generation.

I can't annoint Teddy as a defensive stopper without him seeing a snap yet.

I don't disagree that Ted Ginn could play CB very well for us but the reward has to be worth the risk. If the risk is that TG gets hurt or is off the field for even one offensive play that he normally would be in on, I say no way. The guy is the most dangerous player in college football with the ball in his hands and you can't reduce his touches. Now if TG is in some kind of cyborg type shape and he can play every down on both sides and not diminish his skills, go for it. Who can really say with a straight face though that B10 football is going to allow him to not tire out over the course of a full game. People will want to argue Gamble did it but Gamble was never the offensive player TGII is.

I see Grads point about growing pains, but If he can shut Gonzo and Holms in practice he can shut anybody down that we are gonna play in the regular season. Our WR corps are plenty good to test Ginns coverage skills pre-season. The only other kid that has experience at CB is really E .J Underwood. He got burnt twice for TD's against Purdue.

I watched Ginn guard Adrian Arrington(Scummer WR) in the AAA game. They passed the ball to him twice when Ginn was guarding him. Ginn was on the kid like white on rice. On one play Ginn ran the route better than Arrington and would have picked it for 6 if Arrington wouldn't have tackled him. I know thats against H.S. talent but Ginn would be very good at the beginning next year and IMO would be awesome by the end of the season.

But.....do you divide his reps on O? He is not even close to a polished receiver yet. Split reps on defense would not make him a great DB either...

Imagine how great Teddy could be at either position....

It will not happen at both. Good, decent, above average...but not great.

Deion, Woodson, Gamble, Troy Brown....

All played both ways, but you could always tell where most of their reps came.

Beyond a possible Nickel back...I don't see Teddy playing D.

Just my opinion here...

I totally agree with that statement. Which leads me to the conclusion that Teddy will be on both sides of the ball next season. I don't think we have anyone even close to matching Teddy's skills at corner or the hybrid we have created for him on offense. He is just a one in a million talent.

Grad this is an awesome discussion man. I'm trying to see all the different scenarios that are possible. Man what a great dillema to have as a coach.

Grad do you think Tony Gonzales could go both ways. I posted it earlier but nobody really answered the question. I would like to see Tony get a shot to go both ways.

I'll disagree with that, it takes alot more than pass coverage skills to play full time at cb. Ginn is still 170lbs soaking wet.
peace.
170 can hold a sideline and force a RB inside....

Don't place too much value there....I agree it needs work, but it can be done

No I honestly don't....Gonzo has been polished as WR and will be an incredible 3rd receiver,,,if he holds off Lyons/Hall.

Think of Indianapolis this year, everyone and their mother knew that Marvin was the man in that WR corps, but other guys had better years. You cannot cover that many weapons....impossible.
