What kind of car do you drive?

Deer got me Saturday night. Any recommendations on an SUV?
Depends on what you want to spend, but the current Defenders are pretty badass.

If you're buying new or leasing who cares, get what you want. If you're going pre-owned and want few problems, the Toyota, Acura suggestions are good. If you can deal with stupid little problems and don't really want off road, then maybe a little older BMW or Audi/VW (and by that I mean BMW)

There's not an American or Stellantis product I would recommend. Sorry Jeep fans. Ford Broncos seem pretty cool but they're not cheap. Looking at them they're clearly on a higher QC level than an explorer.
This is a sub truck chassis level discussion. If yukons or expeditions are in play that's another thing.

How much would I have to pay somebody to teach me what to say when I am pissed the wife texts while driving
How we have not eaten a tailpipe is but for the grace of God

You can have her talk to my wife. Among other things she is the product manager for a telemetry based safe driving score (for a company you all know). Suffice it to say, due to her involvement in that field, she knows all the stats and preaches about driving while texting. If you saw the stats on it, you'd shit. It's worse that DUI.

As long as you lease it....

What's the reliability like on those things? Everyone I know who has LRs are always moaning about repairs. When the wife was looking to replace her Q7 she wouldn't even consider one because of her friend who had one.

And FWIW, the Q7 was a GREAT SUV. Kiddo in Oxford is driving it now. Your statement about not off roading German stuff definitely applies to BMW, but I'd have zero issue taking the Q7 off road. For that matter, I'd do the same with the wife's Cayenne... but that would be just about the last thing I ever do before she killed me.

Ha.....spending considerably less than an arm and a leg

What do you want to spend? Are you willing to get on a plane?

If you're willing to travel for the right deal, you can pick something up that is VERY nice that some soccer mom got sick of after a year or two. I got my S6 with less than 2.5K miles on it for $30 off of the sticker, but I had to fly to Memphis to get it. By the time I got home I had literally put 25% of the miles on the car in a single drive. Generally you can find something with stupid low miles a year or two old for a significant discount. Let someone else pay the first two years' worth of depreciation for you.

We've had a Jeep Grand Cherokee in the early 2000s and loved it. My dad has a new one. I'm not impressed.
We've also had a '10 Acura MDX that was great. Both of our boys drove that through high school and into college. Just got rid of it last winter. I think the newer ones have gotten nothing but better.
Have a '15 Q7 that is in the youngest has at Miami. Can't say enough good things about that car. Solid as a rock. Reliable as fuck.
Have a '21 Cayenne e-hybrid that the wife drives now. You can have the keys to that when you pry them out of her cold dead hands.

If I were buying now, I'd not hesitate on a Q7 or another Cayenne.

What is that old joke - 90% of Land Rovers made are still on the road. 10% made it to their final destinations.

Know some people who bought one and got rid of it about 6 months later. Made the switch to the new Toyota Landcruiser. They said it is not as comfortable, but no issues so far.

I'd 100% travel for a good deal. That sounds like a blast. Thanks for the tip!

Am I the only person who still prefers a sedan?

I am looking to replace my current sedan next year. The Acura TLX Type S is the leader at this point. I will give the new 4Runner consideration, but what holds me back is the fact I will not use it for what it is built for - going offroad.

I drove a Bronco recently for several days. I did not leave too impressed.
