Too soon old, too late smart
Always liked the look of the Cherokee's. Wife and I took one for a test drive (sales guy in car). Wife looked in back, and asked why there was a 1"+ gap between door and floor. (Not fixable, simply poorly made). After that, just content to look.....Surprised the wrench that BuckBackHome spoke to didn't tout the Jeep! He'd have made money hand over fist. Hey, Heisman, even a bicycle needs new inner tubes....Face it, all cars are money pits. Father always bought used, said the new cars were worth $10k less the moment you drove it off the lot. Been married 35 years, and wife wouldn't let me buy anything but foreign cars (not BMWs, MBZs, Jags, but Toyotas, etc) because of bad mileage, wear & tear on American made. Anyway, best advice could give is to get a car that you want to drive. The "feel good" quotient (to me at least) is very important. Need to enjoy your vehicle. Where we live, two out of three vehicles are pick-ups (call them Cowboy Cadillacs), and it's difficult for them to park inside the lines wherever. Considering a move back to C'bus. Would assume (?) that Hondas rule the roost there? Anyone got a good dealership in the North End to recommend? Sales guys flip around, but the servicer guys are there forever....Gracias, and go Bucks!

You and I and the two other people who prefer sedans can take a ride in whatever you pick up.
I’m with you though. If left to only one car, I may reconsider… but I love my sedan.
Am blessed that I have the choice.
Well, either way… Me thinks you will have to have an intimate relationship with your mechanic as you’re going to get fucked, regardless. May as well enjoy it.

This. There is going to be a shit ton of cars on the market in the next few months that you’ll have to be careful about. Research is key. Find out where it’s been registered. If it has a whiff of being in the SE, steer clear… as it were.

I have 320k clocked on my cars and another.. 200k probably in previous cars and zero non tire mechanic trips in those miles Last time I paid a mechanic to do something for me it involved welding axles in probably 2007.
That's why these are tough questions for me because I simply don't have a mechanic.
And it's not really about the $. I just don't trust them

I mean I was trying to play nice but vw/audi/Porsche are money pits and Porsche is the only one built with any kind of precision. The company isn't trustworthy.

I wish I had the time, skills and tools to wrench like that. I did plenty on my older Audi before I sold it, but with what’s left in the stable, aside from oil and swapping wheels on the sedan… there’s little that I trust myself to not fuck up. Hell, with the 911s that are my generation and newer, you have to remove the rear bumper to even see the engine. That’s no joke… I’ve never seen the engine in one of my cars. How ridiculous is that? Almost no way to service that SOB without a lift. And, yeah… I get it… first world problems. But it gets worse, with the frick’n center lock wheels on that thing, I am reluctant to do a brake job because I’d need a 500 ft-lb torque wrench before I even consider trying.

You’d love my garage then. “Money pit,” however, does not remotely apply to our experience with either Audi or P-cars. I’d say that reliability and cost to service has been on par with or better than our experience with Acura (TL and MDX).

And I am glad that hear that. So much of this stuff comes down to how they manage/diversify suppliers. Had a rear shock fail on my wife's 328 last month. And I mean fail. Pulled it off, of course its labeled as a bmw part. And I look at the shoddy finish work on it... My only clue was "made in Poland" -- Google that.... And fucking Monroe. Replaced it/them with Bilsteins made in Mexico
- it seems like Honda has a little closer thumb on the sourcing.

Interesting that BMW would source subpar parts. :/
I wonder if there is a difference in those things between the Ms and the regular BMWs. That, and the extra HP are what always sold me on the S4 and S6 over the A variants.
