What kind of car do you drive?

Chrysler Jeep has been notorious for transmission issues for decades now
Both sons had Grand Cherokee's.. in 2021 youngest bought new 2022.. against my recommendation, he bought the best extended warrantee
Last fall car was in the shop about 6 months total.. went thru multiple iterations on the transmission including two replacements...
extended warrantee saved him about $7000.. plus Jeep reimbursed him for 6 car payments...while giving him a brand new car to use...
Dads know best

He now has a Chevy truck

Daughter in law (new Mazda CX5) had a basic fender bender.. into the back of another.. Visually looks like simple repair/bumper replacement..
Repairs were over $6000 because there are so many cameras and electronics talking to each other.. especially in the bumpers
Her warrantee does not come into play because it's accident related

Lesson learned?
I just choked while purchasing the most expensive extended warrantee for my new 2025 Pilot.. the electronics are obscene...
I am sure there is no way there will not be multiple thousand dollar electronics repairs in the next 8 years
Hell, I look at the issues my dang laptops have... and this car has unreal electronics...
FWIW

I just drove a UHaul 14 hours across most of Texas.

biggest hunk of shit I've ever operated.
tops out at 86 mph. as in intentionally governed to not surpass 86.
A/C sorta works, until you get to the desert parts of West Texas, then it just can't keep up.

8.9 mpg average for the trip.
When we moved from Ohio to NH my dad and I did the 15 hour trip in a UHaul. It was a late 70s/early 80s Chevy with a manual tranny, AM radio, and governed at 53 mph. 55 was the limit everywhere.

Going from Erie, PA towards Buffalo I found a station from Canada that proudly played "50 minutes of continuous Polka music every hour."

It was Hell.

Same question, except switch out Wrangler for a new Bronco.

Best to ask your favorite mechanic who has worked on them all. If by any chance you know someone or a client at the tire companies, have them ask their OE dept.. OE dept knows everything about every car, make, model..

Reminds me of a story:
At Goodyear, back in the early 90s they promoted one of the tire engineers to head of Wrangler marketing... Wrangler was hot.. and catching up to Eagle hot... He refused a humongous Wrangler contract for Ford Expedition.. took IMMENSE heat from up high... job threatened.. Firestone got the contract.. Expedition had major problems that caused tire explosions and deaths thus outlandish lawsuits for Firestone... That ballsy engineer saved Goodyear's ass...

Learned the hard way, in your insurance policy, you can pay extra for OEM parts. Meaning, if you need a fender etc replaced, they will use Original Equipment Manufacture parts, not some knock off, look alike. It does make a difference folks, as part tolerances are not from the original machines. And be careful of these EV cars (from whomever), as the batteries do wear out. Will cost me $15,000 to replace the battery deck on our Toyota Highlander Hybrid. Was so enamored with the 'projected' mileage that failed to ask about replacement battery cost. Also, when you purchase new vehicle, mine was a Lexus ES350, tires wore out in 20,000 miles. Went in, complained, and was shown/told by salesman (really a good guy), that it says on window sticker, that the original tires won't last as long, and here's the kicker. They are 'softer' than normal tires. That way, they can look good on stopping distance! Apparently replacement tires are 'harder' - in order to get better mileage, and won't stop as quickly.

Not trying to show anyone my stupidity (of which I have enough to share), but to warn anyone who's listening of what to be aware of, and maybe help them with their decision making. Consumers Reports are a good tool, but don't tell you all the skinny.

Managed to pull off a minor repair. Audi wanted almost 800 to replace the door lock actuator (BTW, one of the most annoying parts failures ever; imagine all four door locks clicking twice every time you cross 10mph). Part was 130 plus another 25 for some weird German screwdrivers and socket drivers. It took me about an hour and a half, so I'm sure a dealer mechanic would knock this out in 30 minutes tops..

Any of you used the BG Protection Plan on your automobile? I got the paperwork on my last oil change as I had a discount under my present oil change program. Just curious if the elevated cost actually pays benefits when it comes to the various coverages that it provides.
