What kind of car do you drive?

Ahhhh... that sounds like a ton of fun. I'd love to R&T my car but that's just not going to happen. Someday I'll get a toy that I won't mind taking into a bail of hay and pile of tires. Oh, and a roll cage in it.

There's some good prices on 911s these days too. Can't recall the model, 996 maybe, that had a small and fairly well known issue that drove the resale prices down significantly. IIRC it was about $200 in parts and a six-pack job if you had the tools. $2500 in labor if you didn't. Sadly I'm getting geared up for the oldest kiddo to start driving and as such, I need to keep the stable relatively responsible. My S4 is tuned as well and it will take a while before I let him out in that... I'm supposed to be right around 400 at the crank and when I get rid of the pre-cats and fatter pipes it should be close to 420. I've never dyno'd the thing, but the butt dyno notices a pretty significant difference between the pre / post tune performance.

Enjoy! Let us know what you pick up!

What year is your S4? If its making 400 to the crank, then it will be around 320-340 at the wheels due to 4WD drivetrain loss. Still plenty of power.

Yup, quattro cuts roughly 15% from crank to the wheels and that's not helped by the fact that it weighs 4000 lbs dry. It's an '09 black on black cab with about 45K on the clock... last of the B7 V8 S4s. They only made the convertible in '09 as the B7 body and transitioned the four door to the B8 body that year. There were a lot of issues with that engine in the B6 and early B7s but (knock wood) I haven't had an issue. The early engines are known for burning oil and having issues with the chain guides breaking leading to catastrophic engine failure (bent rods, scored walls and stuff). Did I mention that the chain is on the firewall so you can't inspect the guides? Design fail... Anyhow, I've worked from home for the most part since I've had it. I expected to have been done with it by now but frankly, given that I don't drive much and the condition of the car, it's really hard to justify a new ride as a replacement. It's still a thrill to drive every time I turn the crank too... so it's not like I'm looking for new excitement. Mind you, I know exactly what I'd replace it with if I were to start driving a lot again... but the work from home thing is too good to give up. The only thing that may change that is that the kids are getting bigger and stuffing them in the back seat is getting to be a pain in the ass. When that happens I'll likely move on to an S6. I think @THEWOOD is in an S6 these days. Love that car. Totally a wolf in sheep's clothing. I guess that's one of the things that attracted me to the S4 in the first place. If you don't know what to look for it may as well be an A4.

My car won't start. WTF.

I had two cars. I had an Audi A4 and I inherited a 2004 Civic from a relative. The thing about the Civic is it only has 50,000 miles or something on it, it was never driven much and is in mint condition. My relative had a stroke. Well, in order to qualify for Medicare and get rehab, he had to spend some money first. My dad, who had power of attorney, went to town on the car, among other things. So new tires, a spare set of snow tires with rims, brakes, shocks, struts, timing belt, everything you could imagine. Then my uncle had a another stroke and won't drive again, and I ended up with his car, which I had been borrowing for my wife as hers was demolished by some high idiot driving down our street.

So it is what should be the nicest 2004 Civic in the world.

I just went out to it, and nothing. I didn't leave the headlights on or anything. It just does nothing. It has behaved like a gem until now. God damn it.

Oh, for fun, about my Audi: I don't drive much. If I am going someplace less than a couple miles away I walk. I didn't even own a car for over a decade in Boston and NYC. I am used to not driving. If I go downtown for work, there is a free bus here. What's the point? I am amazed at how lazy people are here. They wait for 20 minutes in a drive thru rather than take two minutes to walk inside a Starbucks. They drive to someplace five minutes away. Then they go to a gym. ??? So they are lazy except in a specified establishment? Whatever.

Anyway, so my Audi sat on the street for a while. A long while. I usually can park in from of my place, but there was some event at Goodale Park and I had to park it on a side street. Then it got snowed in. Then I forgot about it.

So yeah, I had bought the Audi with a registered address different than mine now. So I didn't get any mail from the city about the fact that they towed it as abandoned, and eventually sold it. So that is how stupid I am in losing that car.

And now my remaining "reliable and sensible" car won't start. Pissed.

2007 Accord. Just hit 207k miles and had my first actual repair, a $240 accelerator pedal sensor. Absolutely nothing else has been done to it other than scheduled maintenance.

Such a wonderful shift from my childhood growing up in a Dodge home (they own Japanese cars now).

p.s. Sorry kinch.

If you own an Audi and leave it on the street to be plowed over in the snow, you don't deserve to own an Audi. If you "forgot about it," you also don't deserve to own an Audi.

See? This is why you can't have nice things.

Meh, that Audi was engineered to be taken to the Moon...

... and left there.

Just picked up a 2007 Lotus Elise as a weekender.

Saved it from Michigan. The 3 hour drive back really wasn't as bad as I imagined after hearing/reading all kinds of reviews of the ride. That being said, I did actively avoid potholes and bumps and everything else I could. The seats are a fixed shape and come with basically just leather as the padding, though they do slide front or back, and it wasn't terribly uncomfortable, but I would never call it a cruiser. Honestly, I've never driven a car as rewarding as the Elise. I'll try to come up with some non-cliche comments, but the car literally and figuratively fits like a glove. It's so small, I passed a Chevy Spark and it looked like a minivan. It's so low, turnpike ticket booths require you to basically stand up to get a ticket. But it's so fast. 190hp I4 doesn't sound like much until you put it in 2000lbs of car. Adding me and a buddy would basically add a 20-25% of the cars weight.

"Simplify, then add lightness" as Colin Chapman would say.

Good for you.

And get an EZ pass.
