What kind of car do you drive?

Star Trek star gets hit and killed by his Jeep. strange but true.

Fiat Chrysler (FCAM) filed a recall notice in April with federal safety regulators for the 2015 Grand Cherokee, the model Yelchin owned, along with 1.1 million cars and SUVs in April. More than 100 crashes have been reported due to a gear selector problem that caused confusion about whether the car was in park.

Supposedly the 2016 model has the old style shifter that solved the problem.

Wifey saw an MB AMG GLA45 today and it was love at first sight!
Sorry, Hun! That's a $60,000 SUV. And we just got a new car in November. Subaru Crosstrek.
But that is one gorgeous SUV! Tempting!

I drive:

2014 WRX (recently sold)
2005 Mitsubishi Evo
2007 Mazdaspeed6

Getting tired of these 4 cyclinder AWD cars. My next one will most likely have bigger displacement and be RWD. The Camaro sounds like a good choice, but everyone and their grandma has one.

Uggg... you got rid of the WRX? That had to be a fun ride, no? Was it tuned? That car has the potential to be grossly overpowered.

I have almost no affinity for most American cars as they haven't built an overpowered sport sedan in like forever... there's a few out there from Dodge that are getting close but I'd be very reluctant to pull the trigger on any Mopar product due to fit and finish issues. There was some talk a couple of years ago about a Buick Grand National re-release... and what I saw of the prototype looked hot... and a real sport sedan (read: not oversized). Sadly, doesn't look like that is going to be released.

If you have an aversion to AWD obviously Audi is off the table. Owning a V8 S4 Cab (garage queen), I'd vouch for that platform... but AWD. That said, M3 or M4?

Oh I love AWD cars which is why I had three. Problem with AWD is that they tend to understeer and the drivetrain is a lot more susceptible to abuse since there are more moving parts (front/rear diffs, transfer case, etc) that are not in FWD or RWD cars.

I wanted to try something different next time (something more grown up) which is why i want to get a RWD sports car. I'm looking at used M3s but I know about BMW's terrible reliability and high cost to maintain.

WRXs can be tuned, mine was tuned on E85 on stock engine internals making about 340whp/360wtq. (stock is around 220whp so its a good deal faster than stock).

However, I've always wanted an Evo. I could have kept both cars but the wife wouldn't have it. I had to get rid of one.

Evos are true AWD track cars. They handle much much better than WRXs and that is an established fact. The stock internals on Evos can handle much more power.

I was running about 500whp on the stock internals before the engine was built. Now its making about the same power but much more safely.

In autocross, I'm about a good 2-3 seconds faster consistently with the Evo than the WRX. And I couldn't be happier.

Ahhhh... that sounds like a ton of fun. I'd love to R&T my car but that's just not going to happen. Someday I'll get a toy that I won't mind taking into a bail of hay and pile of tires. Oh, and a roll cage in it.

There's some good prices on 911s these days too. Can't recall the model, 996 maybe, that had a small and fairly well known issue that drove the resale prices down significantly. IIRC it was about $200 in parts and a six-pack job if you had the tools. $2500 in labor if you didn't. Sadly I'm getting geared up for the oldest kiddo to start driving and as such, I need to keep the stable relatively responsible. My S4 is tuned as well and it will take a while before I let him out in that... I'm supposed to be right around 400 at the crank and when I get rid of the pre-cats and fatter pipes it should be close to 420. I've never dyno'd the thing, but the butt dyno notices a pretty significant difference between the pre / post tune performance.

Enjoy! Let us know what you pick up!
