I recently finished American Gods by Neil Gaimen. Interesting read.

I have barely started Skinny Legs and All by Tom Robbins - it's my first Tom Robbins book. The jury is still out on this one, as I've only just begun...

I recently finished American Gods by Neil Gaimen. Interesting read.

I didn't care for it at all. I thought it was quite dull and (perhaps I am just dense) rather pointless. I was relieved to finish it.

I found it somewhat interesting only because I've spent quite a bit of time playing Age of Mythology, a PC-based real-time strategy game which incorporates the Norse and Egyptian pantheon of gods.

I just finished "In Cold Blood" this morning, and I'm about to start "New York Trilogy" by Paul Auster, one of my favorite authors.

Makes sense. My sister, who is a bit of a mythology buff, recommended it to me and she really enjoyed it.

If you already like Auster, you'll love that trilogy, which is the best stuff he's done: he turns the detective story upside down and inside out, and shows what "postmodern" really means in contemporary fiction. Enjoy!

One of the books not mentioned here that gets a major recommendation from me is The Alienist by Caleb Carr. Not a light read, historical fiction about an Alienist(now would be a forensic psychologist) and a team of detectives tracking a serial killer in NYC around the 1890s. Well written and well researched.
