Hoffman deserved the Oscar, but overall the movie bored me. I've read bits and peices of In Cold Blood at various times and it seemed pretty good-Capote basically invented that literary genre, which is where my reading preferences lie.

I read Da Vinci Code first and thought it was a bit better and more realistic. They were both entertaining though.

No offense, but I hope that by "more realistic" you don't mean that it is at all grounded in fact. I'm currently reading Dante's Purgatory, having finished Inferno last week.

I just finished "Night" by Ellie Weizel. It's his account of the time he spent in German concentration camps while in his early teens. Great book.

Conspiracy of Fools : A True Story by Kurt Eichenwald

It's a book on the rise and fall of Enron.

I just read and taught, Fields of Fire, by James Webb. IMO THE best novel on the Vietnam War... though I love the opening of O'Brien's The Things They Carried.

Also finished Vonnegut's A Man Without a Country... not recommended for anyone with ties to GWB or Rush... but others will get a kick out of a geezer going after the current administration.

Finally, I'm re-reading (sit down first) my 419 Western Civ text from OSU. 1961 - 62 school year: Henry Bamford Park's The United States of America and looking for my 417 - 418 World history text. Those three courses were such eye openers... and I had some good history teachers in high school... as to how and why this country is what it is.

"Mayflower" by Philbrick. Just finished Kenneth Davis' "Don't Know much about Mythology" which was just as good as his other books.
