Vince Young (unemployed)

Brutus & others: FWIW, I think VY's arm against us last Sept. was a cannon when he needed it. Several 3rd down conversions with Young going through progressions, and finally a loooong outlet pass on either sideline to delayed RB. That particular pass pattern gave us a big problem. I was in south stands at game and VY tossed a couple of steel cables to keep Texas alive. Very impressive at the time.

Now I would have loved to play VY next year because Texas would have been #1 and us somewhere in the top 5 rankings wise. Now Texas will fall in the rankings and makes one wonder where they would rank in the preseason. Now we might be preseason #1, which would scare me because of our young defense next year.

The way all the gurus were talking, we would've been pre-season #2 had Young stayed, with Texas of course being #1. So, if we do indeed get voted pre-season #1, it's only a one-spot jump...our defense won't be affected by a one-spot adjustment.

Well I'm glad that he's leaving because it definitely changes the outlook on the game for this upcoming season. I wish he was there, and we could beat them in Austin with a Vince Young, but that would be very, very difficult. If we beat UT next year, all we are going to hear is that we beat them because they didn't have Young. Which really doesn't matter, but it'll get old really quick.

I think that the point was that everyone gets really fired up to play tOSU, but that they will get all that more fired up to play a #1 tOSU squad.

we aren't defending champs or anything. Upsetting the #2 buckeyes will be pretty comparable to upsetting the #1 buckeyes... especially since preseason polls are largely hype.

those of you old school types who have been watching CFB for decades, who would you rank with/above Young in terms of great college QBs?

I hate the vick comparisons that you always hear on TV. He's a dual threat, but other than that Vick is a small burner, and Young is a monstrous guy who beats you with strength/moves more often than his speed.

Steve Young - no doubts in my mind on the validity of that comparison at the CFB premier level.

Congrats to Vince!!! He has done everything but win the Heisman at this level and I think he is ready for the NFL.

The Texans are fools if they are publicly saying their choice is Bush. Not that he is not worth it, just play it up a bit to try and entertain some crazy trade offer.

Absolutely agreed, you do not devalue your trading capacity by publicly declaring your unwillingness to trade. - Dumb, plain dumb; its like playing Bridge as eternal dummy - but consider the source.

Boy this certainly changes the outlook to say the least. If I had to choose playing our 05' defense against Young in 06' or our new defense against their new QB in 06', I would go with the latter. The key now is stopping UT's talented backs, and if our LBers can make some noise, we just might have the recipe to knocking off the Horns.
