Vince Young (unemployed)

OilerBuck said:
I like swagger too...but I hate arrogance. It's one thing to believe your better (which Vince Young does) and an entirely different thing to give your opponent no respect (Chad Johnson). A true leader inspires confidence among his teammates and demands the other teams respect through action rather than words.

All that guarentees and public gimmicks do, are attract attention to yourself, give the other team fodder and place more pressure on your teammates. I don't really have an issue with the way Vince did this, it's a lot more subtle and it honors the opponent, while placing the praise on his team over himself. The Chad Johnsons of the world focus on individual achievements and one-on-one matchups. I think he's the most talented wide receiver in the NFL not named Randy Moss, but he's a joke of a person and will never be a good leader until he learns to shut his mouth.

I agree with Grad on the subject of swagger...it's necessary to have confidence and to be afraid of no one. A player with confidence can almost beat another before the snap. Remember that there is a fine line between looking like a winner and looking like an over-confident fool.
must be a browns fan :p

I say Vince Young stays because he wants to win the Heisman, and get his chance to be the "Number 1 guy" for a year and get drafted with the 1st pick. I think his ego would need alot of that after much hype being stolen by Reggie Bush this year.

If they win the NC and he plays a good game and proves himself, he is all but gone IMO. Especially if they tell him he will be an early to mid first round pick.

I have heard it said more than once that regardless of year ('06 or '07) he will be the #2 QB taken behind either Lienart or Quinn. As much as it pains me to say it, I doubt that Vince will be in austin in '06, I really don't even think that he should be

On another note, I have been hearing about a rookie salary cap that might go into place for the '07 draft. If this is truly the case then I don't even think that there would be a decision any more

With the signing bonus cap coming into play starting with the 2007 draft, those who are sure-fire first-round picks and stay for their senior year instead of entering the draft are about as stupid as you can get. You can applaud them for their love of school and whatnot, but throwing away millions just in reduced signing bonus is flat out moronic.

Speaking of QBs named Colt (Texas' Colt McCoy), Hawaii also has a Colt at QB (Colt Brennan).

All the guys that do a mock NFL draft seem to think he'll go pro (five examples below):
<TABLE style="BORDER-RIGHT: #828282 1px solid; BORDER-TOP: #828282 1px solid; BORDER-LEFT: #828282 1px solid; BORDER-BOTTOM: #828282 1px solid" cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=5 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR bgColor=#1f6684><TD class=topbar2 colSpan=2>4. ARIZONA CARDINALS</TD></TR><TR vAlign=top><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #828282 1px solid" vAlign=bottom>VINCE YOUNG

</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #828282 1px solid" vAlign=bottom align=right>QB | Texas | Scouting Report</TD></TR><TR><TD colSpan=2> After being the popular pick by many analysts to take a big leap this season the Cards are back to their old tricks and are among the leagues worst teams. This is a franchise that has been looking for a quarterback to build around for a long time with little or no success and while Josh McCown has shown flashes he will be a free agent and doesn't seem to have much support from Dennis Green. Vince Young is as exciting of a prospect to come along at the quarterback position in some time and even though he will likely need a lot of development and possibly have to sit and learn for a year or two at the pro level his upside and potential are just too enticing to pass up. With Kurt Warner still in the fold Arizona can afford to wait for Young to develop, which is a situation similar to what Green had in Minnesota in 1999 when he chose Daunte Culpepper early in the draft and sat him early on in his career. Running back is still a possibility as well but they do have last years 2nd round pick J.J. Arrington, who Green likes, and most of the teams troubles in the running game can be blamed on the lackluster play of the offensive line. Also don't rule out a stud linebacker or defensive tackle to upgrade a porous run defense, but if a top quarterback is available that will be the pick.

9. Arizona Cardinals Vince Young, QB, TexasI still think this is too high for Young right now, but Green will fall in love with his potential.

12. Miami DolphinsVince Young*, QB Texas
Frerotte obviously isn’t the long-term answer for the Dolphins, and Young, should he decide to come out early, would add a whole new dimension to the Dolphins’ offense

8. Vince Young, QB, Texas (Jr.): This may seem high for him, but he came on strong late last season and has wonderful tools. Won the Rose Bowl MVP with a sensational performance. At 6-5, 230, he has a strong arm and wonderful feet.
