Vince Young (unemployed)

I think you contradicted yourself here, you say compared to all the other elite qbs and then you say you are not comparing him to Lienhart, well I was under the impression that he was an elite QB.

You can honestly say you would take those guys over the guys that Lienhart has. That is why I said that Lienhart has more weapons to work with than Vince.

The Falcons were 4-12 before Vick got there, I wouldnt exactally call that good.
I never compared him to Leinart alone, I compared him to the other 10-15 top quarterbacks in the NCAA. There's a difference.

And now they have T.J. Duckett, Warrick Dunn, Alge Crumpler, a very good run blocking offensive line, a new offense, a new staff, Roddy White, Michael Jenkins, and a much improved defense. It's not like he is/was working with nothing.

i think young is a decent college QB but i think he will be slightly exposed against USC. somebody will draft him in most likely as a QB but he wont ever play or they draft him as a WR and he might play. he is 28-2 as a starter.......first of all this says nothing about him........secondly the big 12 is lame and even the texas fans know this. they have played 2 quality teams in the past 2 years(OU,OSU). with texas's talent and ability they should steamroll the big 12 like they did this year. like i said i will bet all of my Vcash he never has a start as an NFL QB:biggrin:

speaking of which i will compliment him on the one play against us where he LITERALLY threw it underhand while he was getting sacked to his receiver downfield. that was impressive.

why is it when bret farve makes an improv play and flicks it to a running back for a score he is great and creative but when vy "underhands"(which for the sake of this arguement ONLY will i agree with you) he gets backhanded complements thrown his way.

by the way, you are a very bitter little man

Just like you can't use the aTm game.

Thank goodness. It looked like they all went out and got wasted the night before. The only player that didn't look flat was Ramonce Taylor.

This is not to defend Vince, because he was having an absolutely shit-tastic game (by his standards), but he was getting NO help from the receivers downfield. From my vantage point on the second deck of Kyle Field, almost every play they were completely blanketed by arguably the worst secondary in D1. Looked like they were just going through the motions.

As far as the difference between 04 Vince and 05 Vince, the receivers have a lot to do with it. Good stuff happens when your receivers actually get open (save the A&M game). They didn't do that in 04.

On top of that, His accuracy hasn't really changed. It's his decision making and ability to read a defense. I just read that he's made 4 audibles this year that have ended up with 40+ yard touchdown passes. Speaking of audibles, we haven't seen any of those since Major Applewhite was starting in 2000.

Anyway, on Vince's draft stock.... if he decides to enter the draft, there's no way he starts next year. It'll be like Steve McNair's development in Houston/Nashville. He'll sit and watch for a few years. Scouts aren't allowed to officially report on a player until his eligibility is up or he has officially declared (someone correct me if I'm wrong), so there's really nothing out there to go by. But based on second hand accounts, the consensus seems to be that he might not even be a top 10 pick at this point, let alone top 5.

I'm gonna guess because Favre's normal throwing motion is...well....normal.

Nah, Brett Farve is an idiot when he does it too... problem is that they will do it on any and every play... its one thing when the game is on the line... quite another when its just close.... having said that, Vince will probalby figure out at some point that he doesn't have to win every game on his own... especially if palying tha tway leads to turnovers that you can't come back from...

And, yeah... back t the list of gusy who have started a game this year... we need go no further than Brooks Bollinger. Good Champagne... bad Quarterback. (and how the fuck does Anthony Wright still have a job.)

Oh, and I think he's a late First Rounder. (and that's not meant as a jab in any way... )

FYI, he threw two interceptions in that game.

fyi, ts nearly threw 3 in half the possessions. should we move him to tb now or wait till later?

noone is going to draft vy and expect him to be the next dan marino. he just isn't that type of qb. i simply think he brings things to the table (mobility) that offenses seem to be finding more appealing than they have in the past from a qb.

*sarcasm* i base this off my umpteen years of scouting for nfl teams *sarcasm* :p i just can't imagine an nfl team not taking a chance on him after the year he has had.

i will give the guy credit where it is due but i dont see the NFL QB potential in him. matt white and randle el were not terrible QBs in college and they both moved to WR. vince is viewed as a 2 dimensional player but his size and speed is too good to pass up at a WR spot when the current QBs are already far better passers. vince young isnt going to have vicks ability to tuck and run and get yards. vick is faster, more nimble, and smaller which allows him to make quick cuts and use his speed to cut across the grain. true young is fast and he is big but he doesnt have that same raw ability and i would really love to see him try to break a tackle off of NFL players as opposed to mediocre teams in the big 12. our defense is great but they still do not hold a candle to the NFL defenses and we had no trouble containing young. the guy has massive hands, speed, size, which translates into everything the NFL wants at the WR position as long as young can catch the ball. young would have to do something awe inspiring against USC for me to think of him as a NFL QB.

no because we went on to go play other quality teams and smith improved and showed he can play at the QB position. meanwhile young went on to play the likes of the big 12 which is a complete joke this year. oklahoma just now seems to be coming on but other than that no team in that conference is worthy of anything. nebraska is living in the past, ISU just lost to kansas, colorado sucks, ok state almost lost to fla atlantic, A&M almost lost to DIAA texas state even with mcneal, kansas is ok, baylor is improving but nothing impressive, oklahoma got beat by UCLA, etc, etc.

matt white? matt jones had pretty average success at QB.
Randle-El was 5'10". Zero chance of seeing over an NFL line.

Hawk did a great job against VY. Donte missed a few times, Schlegel had him in his arms and lost him. He broke tackles against future NFL players.

Jax, how many of the top QBs played horrible defenses? Leinart, Olsen, Clemens, Brennan, Hodges, Quinn... yep they all fit. All are very good qbs tho.

you're kind of arguing against your own point. TS isn't an NFL QB, yet you are comparing him to VY and using that as an example of VY being an NFL QB?

granted, but "underhand" is not vy's normal throwing motion. I think that right now Vince would get drafted somewhere around where Jason Campbell was drafted(maybe a little higher), and there is no doubt in my mind that it will be as a qb. His throwing motion will scare some, but the guy is 6'5" and tipped balls have never been a problem for him. David Carr was the choice of the Texans to build their team around, he like Vince has a side arm delivery. Philip Rivers is another guy recently taken high with a side arm delivery. Vince has noticably improved his decision making this year and I think another year would do him good; however, i do not question whether or not he will be a qb in the nfl.

That's what future NFL players do, they break tackles. That only has something to do with his running ability which no one's questioning.
I was responding to jax, who did say exactly that:
