Vince Young (unemployed)

very true BUT his mistakes against the team we have right now would have not only gave a us victory but we might have very well put them away with ease and we wouldnt even be talking about vince young anymore but unfortunately we willo have to wait till we go to austin next year. i just dont see him playing any quality teams which inflates his numbers. the 2 times he played QUALITY teams(OU in 04 and us) he didnt look near as impressive and just looked an everyday QB and he looked disasterous against OU last year and should of lost the game for texas this year. thats just the way i see things. the big 12 really needs to beef up.

Everyone compares Vince's stats to other quarterbacks, except the most important one: he's 28-2 as a starter. While he may not be the best passer, he has that knack for winning games. Some quarterbacks have it, and some don't. He went into the Horseshoe, and he led the team down the field to win against maybe the best defense in the land. Your defense isn't any better now than it was then--it was really good!

If wins in college had anything to do with NFL success then Craig Krenzel, Ken Dorsey, and Jason White would be this years probowl selections. Not saying he won't cut it as an NFL qb, but this stat means nothing in the discussion IMO.

I think the latter part of his statement is pretty valid, he was the reason Texas won, and he did it against one of the loudest crowds ever in the shoe. We are not an NFL defense, but its about as good of a challenge as he'll see before getting drafted.

Another thing:
I don't think Matt Jones is nearly good enough at QB to compare him to vince. Look at his stats from his senior year:
He completed 62 of 137 passes for 830 yards and seven touchdowns as a senior and earned 939 yards and 13 touchdowns on 105 rushing attempts.

Suggs' five TDs pace Hokies in win over UCF
Suggs rushed for a BIG EAST Conference-best 1,207 yards and led the nation in touchdowns with 28.

Andre' Davis was pretty good too at WR. He scored on a run, pass and return vs. WVU in 2000 amassing 271 ap yards.

I'm not claiming that he had as many weapons, but he wasn't without any talent.
------------------------------

Yes grad, I do think he is definitely better than Vick in passing. Both have their bad games, but its not nearly as unusual for Young to have a full series where his passes are on the money.

and, your point is what? I already said 2000 was the year Suggs came into play...and Davis? Would you compare him with the talent Texas has across the board? Suggs was a sophomore...Vick was coming off an amazing freshman year. Who was the focus of the defense Josh? Are you trying to say I'm wrong in my assertion that Vick made the running game happen and Suggs was the beneficiary?

Of course both teams had talent Josh...that was not a question.

Ah, the Tom Brady defense. He must be a good QB because his team wins games. It has nothing to do with a dominating defense and great coaching.....it's all the QB.

Don't get me wrong, I think VY is a great QB.

I just don't know if his side-arm throwing style will translate into NFL success.

I hope he proves me wrong b/c he's a warrior.

He's looked great this year, goofy throwing and all...my biggest concern would be someone in the NFL trying to change his motion and make it look perfect...VY is going to make mistakes and bad throws, you have to take that into account but he can also make huge plays

I am not sure if you have memorized every single one of Vick's pass attempts this season, but maybe you could numerate what occured on the other end of about 200 of them? Yes, I understand Vick has actually completed a deep pass in his life, but of Vick's 150 odd completions this season, I'm guessing Crumpler has caught about 50 of them. The MNF throw over the middle to Jenkins against the Jets put Jenkins on the DL for a few weeks with a high ankle sprain that pass was so bad.

Are you saying all QB's don't throw bad passes. I have never said that he is Joe Montana, but he does make throws that he needs to make. If he didnt I don't think the Falcons would be 7-4 and he would be on the bench.

These don't have the arm stregth to make passes that consistently have to be made in the NFL. Young does.

In the NFL, if you gave Vick Housh... & Kevin Curtis, do you think he would start putting up ridiculous numbers? I think his stats would improve, but I think he would still struggle to be a top passer. He already has two stud RBs behind him.

Maybe you can write off the disparity to better talent, but VY seems like a much better QB this year than last. Still not a great QB by any means, but definitely showing the kind of improvement that would encourage someone to draft him. Vick got more talent around him and seemed to do worse in his sophomore year. VY was the focus this year too (including from our awesome defense), and he has emerged undefeated with very nice stats.

What the hell is the Michael Vick/Vince Young thing going on here?

(And Warren Moon and Mike Vick, Moon Couldn't run his way out of a wet paper bag... and was 10 times the passer that vick is... and I think Vick is a good QB.. btw, just nothing like Moon.)

If you need to compare him to someone, and I'll stay in the Black QB realm, if it makes you happy... Duante Culpepper anyone? (And don't start with, "Oh, Duante's stats as a passer are so damned good"... I'll give you Moss, Carter and a good running game, and you can be a pro bowler too.)

Vince is Big, Strong, makes good decisions (at least a lot better decisions than he did) Runs pretty well... though not with Vick Burst... and has a plenty strong arm... kind of reminds me of ROFLberger in a lot of ways too... at least how they'll be successful in the NFL... Power Run team, big strong guy, tough to sack, make the plays you need to make, don't make mistakes.

this has been sooo hard to stay out of, i don't think anything can be said on the subject however that will change anyones mind, for one reason or another vince seems to polarize football fans and scouts alike, we will just have to see in a year or two. one thing is for sure, I COULDN'T BE MORE HAPPY THAN I AM RIGHT NOW WITH HIM QUARTERBACKING THE TEXAS LONGHORNS

Man I was waiting for you to chime in.

I know you don't want to, but just one simple question, How would you rate Young's decision making and passing ability on a scale of 1-10.

I like these comparisons, but I don't think either would hold his jock in the running dept. and Young isnt up there with them in terms of passing and he sure doesnt manage a game like Big Ben.

The reason I said I liked Omar Jacobs earlier in this thread was for the same reasons you like them two.
