Vince Young (unemployed)

I like these comparisons, but I don't think either would hold his jock in the running dept. and Young isnt up there with them in terms of passing and he sure doesnt manage a game like Big Ben.

The reason I said I liked Omar Jacobs earlier in this thread was for the same reasons you like them two.

How do you know he doesn't manage a game like Big Ben? Texas is blowing people out left and right. And why do people think that Big Ben is this great game Manager... he makes big plays... and the Steelers run the ball... big deal.

Second... Young won't be able to run like he does in the NFL... there won't be Michigan Defensese to face... as long as he knows when to run, he'll be fine...

Why do you think Young can't throw as well as Culpepper... the Vikings are winning without him now... maybe in spite of him before.... (Similarly, How good does Big Ben look in SF?)

Point is... much like earlier points... that he will be fine if he gets the right people around him.

In the NFL, if you gave Vick Housh... & Kevin Curtis, do you think he would start putting up ridiculous numbers? I think his stats would improve, but I think he would still struggle to be a top passer. He already has two stud RBs behind him.

One, this has nothing at all to do with Vick in the NFL...college defenses and schemes are not comparable to NFL schemes and personnel. No chance at all. The discussion is about Vick at VT and VY at Texas.

Josh, answer me this...who had a bigger impact on the tOSU rushing game this year...Pittman or Smith?

Maybe you can write off the disparity to better talent, but VY seems like a much better QB this year than last. Still not a great QB by any means, but definitely showing the kind of improvement that would encourage someone to draft him. Vick got more talent around him and seemed to do worse in his sophomore year. VY was the focus this year too (including from our awesome defense), and he has emerged undefeated with very nice stats.

When have I once said Young was not an improved player? Nearly everyone in this thread has stated that... Vick did worse his sophomore year? VT played in the NC game. Hell if we are going to assess performance on stats alone, we better look back on a number of players. Wow, Krenzel must suck then.... Numbers do not always tell the whole story in a QB. Especially not when inflated for a Heisman race

This discussion has gotten trapped into this Vick/Young comparison and I'm afraid I contributed to it. I didn't bring up Vick originally, but the comparison was valid for my purposes. Someone claimed Young's best chance to be drafted was at WR. Well IMO, if Vick can get drafted at QB then Young sure as hell can. I believe Young's passing ability is above and beyond what Vick's was in college whatever talent may or may not have been around them, as the stats clearly show IMO. That was the only comparison to Vick that I was making and I actually made other comparisons that seemed to have been ignored...

VY is the fourth rated QB in the NCAA in passing efficiency. How does that make him inaccurate? I think this puts him right in there with the "elite"...

1. Drew Olsen..........172.47
2. Rudy Carpenter.....167.68
3. Brian Brohm..........166.73
4. Vince Young.........165.03
5. Brady Quinn..........162.90
6. Matt Leinart..........161.94
7. Phil Horvath..........159.23
8. Troy Smith...........158.45

These are the comparisons I find useful to this discussion...

I can't comment enough on VY @ VT, b/c I only saw him play a limited amount. So my comparisons are weak in that regard. Of what I saw, I thought they were pretty comparable. Heck, I think their ability to throw the ball is somewhat comparable in 2005.

I realize Vick had a huge impact on the running game, but isn't that also why Taylor/Charles have had so much freedom...?

Krenzel doesn't suck, but I wouldn't say he was a very good QB during our NC run. He was a great manager of the game, and made clutch plays, but even the buckeye faithful were not surprised to see him struggle in the NFL.

His numbers may be inflated, tho so are many of the other top QBs, especially Brohm at Louisville.

I don't mean to suggest he's a great QB. But the entire nation knew he couldn't pass pre-sept10, and he proved all of them wrong. I guess he'll have to wait until next year (in either league) to prove everyone wrong again.

In that regard, I think the Vick comparison is very fair. He is someone who will probably always have to prove himself yet another time.

So they are very comparable...isn't that what I said in my first two posts? What was the point of this discussion if you were in agreement? As for your other responses...I'm just going to save us both some time. Different wires for sure...

vy will play qb in the nfl. i can't believe people on this site still doubt his passing ability after the tOSU texas game.
To be fair, you can't use 1 game to determine if he's a good passer or not. Just like you can't use the aTm game.

and god was he bad passing in that game. he was throwing underhand!

i think young is a decent college QB but i think he will be slightly exposed against USC. somebody will draft him in most likely as a QB but he wont ever play or they draft him as a WR and he might play. he is 28-2 as a starter.......first of all this says nothing about him........secondly the big 12 is lame and even the texas fans know this. they have played 2 quality teams in the past 2 years(OU,OSU). with texas's talent and ability they should steamroll the big 12 like they did this year. like i said i will bet all of my Vcash he never has a start as an NFL QB:biggrin:

I said "in that regard" which was in reference to repeatedly having to prove himself.

Really? This is what I was talking about...but feel free to spin again.

I also said VY @ VT, so that whole sentence is just a mess. But I did say comparable earlier, so I won't argue. I think Vick carried his team more with his feet, and VY with his arm.

I think 04 Young and 00 Vick are pretty similar.

p.s. Krenzel should go down as one of the all-time great QBs at OSU. When I said he wasn't that great, I was referring to his NFL stock. I still don't think he threw a very good ball, but I'm glad that he started over McMullen, who seemed to throw great balls.

A list of quarterbacks that have started a game this year in the NFL

Charlie Batch
Brooks Bollinger
Kyle Boller
Trent Dilfer
Ken Dorsey
Gus Frerotte
Joey Harrington
Tommy Maddox
Mike McMahon
Kyle Orton
Cody Pickett
Vinny Testaverde
Anthony Wright

And you are going to tell me that Vince Young will never even get a single start at qb? Please.

no, but you can answer the question of whether or not the raw talent is there. i wouldn't dare argue that vy is a polished qb. without question he will need more work than a true pocket passer. but then mobile qb's almost as a rule do. with vy's measurables and the increased desire for mobile qb's in the nfl. i think vy will be looked at as very attractive even when you factor in his at times poor performances throwing the ball.
