Verizon & Android news

I'm actually now looking at the Galaxy Note. Anyone have one?

I don't make many phone calls (maybe use 100 minutes a month) but I am web browsing, navigation, music heavy. And with this being a phone/tablet hybrid I feel like this might suit my needs a bit more

Anybody get a nexus 7?

I got to play with a coworkers during my lunch break today. I really liked it though and it seems like it would do everything I would need. Dead Trigger looked amazing for it being a tablet. I'd mainly be using the tablet for email, web browsing, watching movies, reading books, etc. And I think it could easily replace a laptop for those tasks. I like the 7" form factor over the 10" because the device doesn't feel so damn heavy. When I had a iPad last semester I hated how heavy it was. I didn't experience any ghosting or the touchscreen issues Chavez was talking about. I'll probably be picking one up as soon as google gets the 16gb's back in stock. Or should I purchase from some other retailer? I talked to Staples today and they said they would have more in stock on August 8th.

I'd get it through Google, unless you find a really good deal elsewhere. The ease of returns/warranty work is worth it to buy direct IMO.

I'm really wanting a SIII, I'm upgrading from a Fascinate. However, because of the locked bootloader through verizon :pissed: I'm waiting. The ability to root/load custom ROM's is important to me, and I find it ridiculous that yet again big red is screwing people over.

Whenever I decide to get a new phone, I'll flash my Fascinate to Straight Talk so my wife can have it.

Ordered a 16GB today for my wife's birthday. Had to go through Google Play. I don't normally like to order something that I've never held in my hand. Heard good things for price point tablet. Wanted to see what the Kindle Fire 2 was all about, but no decent info has been available. I'll post back when I've had a chance to mess with it. Never had a tablet before. It will be hers for facebook games, etc.

The p.o.s. Thunderbolt I've been using since January kicked the bucket today. I think the battery burned out because I can still turn it on for a couple of minutes while it is charging. Anyways, had to switch back to Droid X. I actually liked that phone when I was using it. Now it seems like an antique, probably because it's fully updated and still running 2.3.4 (which came out Apr of last year). I have an upgrade end of Sept, thank goodness. I think I'm giving up on Android and going with Iphone 5 this time. I've had 4 Android phones now and that's my biggest beef... seems like they are out of date 2 months after you get one. Half the apps don't work because they were developed for a different version of Android. I can't even get my Outlook exchange account set up on this one now.

Iphones don't go out of date because all they do is release the same [censored]ing phone and put a new number on it

That and all iPhones get updates when they're available (if the user choses). Fragmentation is a way bigger problem with Android because carriers release updates, with plenty of bloatwear, when they feel like it. I have a Droid Bionic and I'm running 2.3.4, still waiting on ICS even though I know it will never happen. I might switch to an iPhone myself when my [Mark May]ty contract expires.

I don't disagree that fragmentation is a problem in Android. I also think it's the consumer's responsibility to do their research, before buying any phone. True google devices get released about once a year now. If you want something that is going to have support for a longer time (both from the dev community and the cellphone provider) this is the Android device your getting. Not the greatest and latest "droid" device. There is also plenty a consumer can do to stay up to date without having to worry about when their carrier is going to release an update. Rooting and installing custom roms isn't that hard. It's about as simple as installing a program on a computer. XDA Developers forum is a great resource for everything you'd want

Thanks to a flash-compatible phone, I will be drafting from a soccer field during an upcoming fantasy football draft.

Dolphin Browser works great with the practice drafts. Full-screen mode is a must.

You know that flash on mobile phones is dying right? Even with Android

Regardless...I'm jealous lol
