Verizon & Android news

My iPhone charges pretty fast while plugged into the cig lighter
That wasn't the question. Your compliant was that you couldn't stream music, with the screen on, with the GPS running and still charge it.

Are you able to do those things with the iphone and still have it charging? Considering Apple just debuted turn by turn functionality, I'm guessing you didn't.

Android phones charge quite quickly when they aren't using every battery chewing feature at once (well, I guess bluetooth wasn't on).
However, I have my iPhone plugged into the USB on my work CPU (charges very quickly for me) Even when I tried out that android phone, it was still losing battery even while plugged into the same CPU
Which phone did you have?

and did you turn off the gps when you stopped using google maps?

Yeah I got it.

Are you able to remove all that crap that comes pre installed on the phones easily yet?
I'm not sure what you mean. Some phones come with skins, like HTC Sense or Motoblur, but they aren't really intrusive and you can always root the phone and install any flavor of phone you want to use, including ones that will change how your phone performs, including battery life.

2-3 years ago, especially beyond that, Verizon used to take phones and cripple them with bloatware and extra software. That's not really the case now.

There are some crapware that cell provider's install, I'm not sure if iOS does that (could care less). I think the different UI's are what sets android apart from iOS. Example: most of the different UI's have special features (think Samsung's Siri like feature) that devs port to other devices or incorporate into their custom roms. I'll second the installing a custom rom and improving battery life.

If you want something simple, get an iphone. If having to install custom roms you don't want to do, don't get an android phone.

I'd really like to know what Mac was doing to have his battery drain while it was plugged into his pc. I was streaming music the other day (not over wifi) at work and had no problems with my battery not losing a charge. And this is on a phone that's 2 years old.

I've never installed a custom rom and been very happy with my android phones. I'll probably get around to it this time, but HTC makes great phones (my droid incredible), and the Galaxy Nexus is a welcome change from the buggy Samsung phones of a few years ago.

Same here. If I have the screen on, browse the web with the GPS on, then I usually break even if it is plugged in.

If I'm streaming music with it plugged in but the screen is off, it charges just fine. If I'm plugging it in with just it sitting there (especially on WiFi), it charges really fast.

Yes I'm able to stream through pandora, on safari, twitter, and text while plugged in (connected to PC) and it still charges

I've got the 3gS (I've had it for more than 2years now). Google Maps does turn off for me when I'm done using it. My 3gS actually charged very quickly even when it's being used pretty heavily

I'm not looking for something "simple". I'm looking for something to cater towards my needs. I use GPS every day. Turn by turn would be nice to have especially with arrival ETA. I listen to music in my office a lot, and I browse BP quite a bit. Now if I went android I'd also get one of the office/word/PowerPoint apps so that I can do some work away from my work PC. (it's tough to do this on the 3.5" iPhone screen). even at home I use it quite a bit. If the wife is on the laptop im on my phone doing something.

To sum it up, I'm a heavy phone user that I use for everything [/quote]

We don't have wifi at my work. So I run through the cell network while here.

I was running web browser and pandora (maybe a little twitter too), while plugged into the work PC to keep it charged. But I was still losing juice. I also tried to see what was running other than what I was using, and killed them to see if it would help, to no avail

 So I'm guessing February we might get it?

Didn't they just now push ICS to devices?

If you wait for the official JB release, it won't be here till Q4. There's already custom roms in the works.

I can't decide if I want to get the Galaxy Nexus or Galaxy S 3 on AT&T. The main reason I'd want a GN is because I wouldn't be locked into a contract.
