Utah 25 Michigan 23 (Final)

C'mon, we all saw this coming since the off-season. He has been forcing his same plays that worked in the Big East on a team in the Big Ten. It is a MUCH different world in our conference, and no matter all the de-commits and transfers, he still insists on being stubborn. Look where his stubbornness got him today...
Not the same at all. WVU ran about 70% of the time. This was about 40% run, even when we weren't trying to catch up.

You also saw the first glimpse at DickRod's stubborn offensive approach today. Aside from the one pass coming off a turnover, he called the same plays over and over and over again. He is simply unable to adjust. Granted the talent isn't really there, but at some point, when you're down big at home to a mid-major opponent, you'd think he'd try to go downfield or at least something different. Utah was all over those little dink and dunk passes all game long, yet he kept going back to them.
Offensive line wouldn't let us run, and Sheridan at least doesn't have the arm or the accuracy for much beyond about 15 yards.

Oh for fuck's sake it's one game. He's not going to have a QB this year. He's not going to have a good OL this year. Give me a fucking break dude.

Lets remember to put this in context....we are talking about Mi**igan not having the talent to beat Utah.

Also, Utah is far from the most talented team they will play this year. Illinois, PSU and OSU are all capable of running a spread attack on them with better players than Utah and have 10X the defense.

They better not book any Bowl trips just yet.
Yep. And had they not come unspooled in the 4th, Utah would've absolutely hammered them. That score does not indicate just how bad scUM looked.

*edit* time to update that SIG Jax.*

See that scarlet and gray color scheme? It's an Ohio State board, we're gonna ridicule and mock you guys relentlessly until you shut us up.

Doesn't Threet supposedly have a decent arm though? They can't throw more than a glorified screen? Aside from the one pass to Hemmingway, it looked like they were running the same damn plays series after series. Even the yahoos on the scout board were calling it. Short pass and hope their athletic ability can spring them...

Hey man, I don't care if its 2 games. His play calling was pretty bad for his opening day. Give me a fucking break. This was the day scUM fans needed some reassurance. With scUMs recent performance under Carr in big games, the de-commits and the transfers already with Rich Rod - this a HUGE day of moral for scUM fans everywhere. Everyone was looking at Rich Rod and his team to give them the warm and fuzzies on the opening day at home (one year after loosing to Appy St at home). This game was pretty big on setting the tone for Rod's new team and approach. Do I expect them to lose next week to Miami (OH), no, but I don't have a great feeling about going to Notre Dame.

As much hatred as I have for Michigan - YOU ARE MICHIGAN! An elite team that dates back century's, with countless accolades, Utah has only been D-1a for about 40some years.

As for my earlier comments, they came off wrong. I meant that he's bringing a playbook from the Big East (that worked in the off-season against East Washington, East Carolina, Wofford) and into a conference that is much stronger and he doesn't seem up for much change. Will it be that way for the remainder of the season? I dunno, will it stay the same? Who knows? I can only go off of the very important game I saw today.

How about Craig Roh tho?

Tate was a done deal months ago imo.

Well I don't know about Craig. I really hope the early PT pitch can work for him. He could likely start from Day 1 at UM. I liked the DL today. What did they have? A half dozen sacks? More impressively (for long-suffering UM fans vs. the spread) they did a pretty good job of not breaking containment. As bad as UM's running game was, we averaged more ypc than Utah did, so the DL did a good job. That said, Roh could head to SC, especially with Nick Perry not looking good for them.

Carson Butler made a nice catch today too. Criminally underused today, but nice catch. Where the hell was Carlos Brown? Was one rush really all they could give him? I'd make him the centerpiece of the offense. He can line up at QB, RB, WR whatever.

Sacks were factored into that total...Asiata was running pretty well. Did he get hurt?

I don't expect them to lose to Miami but it wouldn't suprise me. You can't confidently predict a win over anyone when you have those kinds of issues on the OL and at QB.

Exactly. Had Miami at least been competitive with Vandy I'd pick an outright win. But take away the meltdown Utah achieved in the 4th quarter, scUM looked absolutely atrocious. Their DL can get pressure on the QB, but they looked vulnerable against the run and it's the same old secondary (Morgan Trent superstar!). They cannot move the ball on offense. The line is terrible, the QB's suck and their supposed best RB (Minor) had a key fumble. I don't know why Brown didn't play more, but it probably wouldn't matter with the shape their line is in. McHoppy looked like a frosh out there too. They could very easily drop one to Miami.

On their last 4 offensive plays, Utah gave up what, -30 or so yards rushing just to burn 2 minutes of clock? It was probably more than 30...

Take away 4 carries and add 30+ yards and you'll get a clearer picture of Utah's running game, and this doesn't even correct for the sacks you mentioned.

The offense is as bad as expected, and the defense looks more vulnerable than expected. The best thing you can say about today (for TSUN) is something you've already said. "It's just one game."

I saw some promise. I saw enough to believe that richrod will eventually field a good team in The Whore. But it won't happen this year.

I didn't see the game but the box score looks like maybe the Miami QB's INT's killed them. They held Vandy to 360 total yards.

Bottom line is if you can play a shred of defense, pressure the passer and catch the INT's when thrown to you, you stand a chance at beating scUM this year.

On offense its the same old formula. Have a mobile QB to avoid the pass rush they can generate that is also a decent passer, put 4-5 wide on them and torch the back 7.

Other than the fact the offense looks like a monkey trying to fuck a football, I don't see that big a difference from the past few years.

Of course the real laugher to all this is that NoD is a mirror fucking image and can do none of the things you need to be able to do to beat scUM. Its going to be like a Sigfried and Roy pillow fight.
