Utah 25 Michigan 23 (Final)

Im still trying to figure out why they went with a 10 yard pass when they needed a hail mary? C'Mon, didn't Barwis give them unbelievable strength in the offseason?

Once again, Michigan = 0-1. Looks like they are kicking off the Rich Rod era nicely.

The spin will be that they lost a tough hard fought game to a team on par with the 1994 49ers.

The truth is they lost an ugly game to a mediocre team that let scUm stay in it with stupid penalties and mistakes on special teams.
Yep, Utah practically handed this game to them with a bow on it. How many fucking penalties did they commit in the 4th quarter for Pete's sake? And the fumble. Outside of the one pass to Hemmingway, that offense could not move the ball. Their line looks terrible. Their RB's fumble and don't look terribly impressive and neither Sheridan or Threet asserted themself. I wouldn't be surprised to see Carlos Brown get a decent chance under center next week.

I know the Utah penalty yardage had to be very close to scUMs total yardage.

The best part for scUM fans? No matter how bad they suffer with these QB's this year, they get to start over with another freshman next year! He may be more talented than these two clowns but he'll still be a freshman.

The RR era is going to be more fun than I ever imagined.

I don't know how many in the 4th, but they had 130+ penalty yards and 3 turnovers for the game....

Disappointing for sure. Someone needs to explain to me why Michigan insists on using a 4-3 against shotgun spreads with four and five wide. Nickel package? Dime? Come on.

Growing pains are going to be had for sure. Nice game by Obi Ezeh today though.

At least your DL was able to get after the QB and keep it from really getting out of hand. Morgan Trent looks as bad as ever, that can't be encouraging. The offense actually looked worse than I expected.

Probably the same reason they used it against spread teams under the previous regime, not enough good DB's to run out there.

I almost died when I saw Warren come limping off the field in the 2nd, but then he went back out there the next play.. But it's interesting because they practiced Harrison coming down to the Nickel and Charles Stewart coming in at safety for their 3-3-5 package, but time and time again we saw Austin Panter on the slot WR and I was like WTF.

I'll pass on judging the running backs, other than maybe McGuffie who had FRESHMAN in neon signs following him around. The O-line was putrid, and I give special consideration to Tim McAvoy, who (as just one example) did a fantastic job double-teaming a lineman on one pass play, which was awesome except for the blitzing linebacker screaming through the hole he left.

You also saw the first glimpse at DickRod's stubborn offensive approach today. Aside from the one pass coming off a turnover, he called the same plays over and over and over again. He is simply unable to adjust. Granted the talent isn't really there, but at some point, when you're down big at home to a mid-major opponent, you'd think he'd try to go downfield or at least something different. Utah was all over those little dink and dunk passes all game long, yet he kept going back to them. With no QB to keep defenses honest, the opposition can focus on the run and limit those ping pong balls from getting into space. It's gonna be a long season up there. If Utah doesn't come unglued in the 4th, that would've been a 32-10 game at least.

C'mon, we all saw this coming since the off-season. He has been forcing his same plays that worked in the Big East on a team in the Big Ten. It is a MUCH different world in our conference, and no matter all the de-commits and transfers, he still insists on being stubborn. Look where his stubbornness got him today...

Granted the talent isn't really there, .

Lets remember to put this in context....we are talking about Mi**igan not having the talent to beat Utah.

Also, Utah is far from the most talented team they will play this year. Illinois, PSU and OSU are all capable of running a spread attack on them with better players than Utah and have 10X the defense.

They better not book any Bowl trips just yet.
