The Spring League Oct-Nov 2020 Schedule & Details

Dsf198GWsAAIQu3.jpg

The Spring League‘s fall season is right around the corner and former XFL players along with many CFL and College opt-outs will be participating.

The 6 team, 12 game season will be played entirely in San Antonio, Texas at The Alamodome, with friends and family allowed to attend the games, and tickets also being sold to the general public.

The sole purpose of The Spring Leagues’ fall season is to give these players another opportunity to build up their game film and impress professional football teams in the NFL, CFL, or maybe even XFL. Something that will definitely help is The Spring League has confirmed that they will be sending both practice and game film to every NFL and CFL team’s front office.

Who will participate in The Spring League?

It has been confirmed that “Any player who is currently eligible for the 2021 NFL Draft or a previous year’s NFL draft is eligible to sign with a team in The Spring League.”

Players that have so far been reported to be participating include former CFL QB and passing touchdown leader, McLeod Bethel-Thompson, as well as Former XFL LB Jerimiah Spicer.

USFL to Return in Spring 2022 with at Least 8 Teams; Will Be Broadcast on Fox Sports

Thirty-five years after the United States Football League ceased operations, the league is being resurrected, with play set to begin in the spring of 2022.

Per an official release, the new USFL will "target a minimum of eight teams" and all games will be broadcast on Fox Sports.

There have been multiple attempts over the years to launch a professional spring football league after the NFL season ends. The Alliance of American Football launched in February 2018, but it folded eight weeks into its inaugural season.

A new version of the XFL kicked off in February 2020, but play was suspended the following month because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The league folded and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in April 2020.

Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia and Gerry Cardinale purchased the XFL for $15 million before it went up for auction.

The original USFL ran for three seasons from 1983-85. A fourth season in 1986 was planned for the fall and winter months to go head-to-head with the NFL amid constant pressure from Donald Trump, who owned the New Jersey Generals, but the league folded because of significant financial losses.

The USFL filed an antitrust lawsuit against the NFL for acting as a monopoly on pro football. The USFL did win its case, but the league was only awarded $3.76 after interest and spent more than $6 million in court costs.

I want to get excited about this league, but with colossal failures of the 2nd gen XFL and the AAF as of late, I don't see how this will fare much better. It's cool to see some players I remembered from college, but that nostalgia wears off fast when the quality is sub par. That heisman finalist from mid 2000's missing a wide open WR for the 5th time or throwing his 3rd INT no longer becomes fun

But what if that QB happens to be a September Heisman finalist from TTUN? Then it is pretty fun to watch, right?

The USFL, which is set to begin play in April 2022, will be split into two divisions –– North and South — according to the league's website. Each team will play a 10-game schedule, with teams in the same division playing each other twice and teams in the other division once, according to the league. Four teams will qualify for the postseason, with the top two finishers in each division meeting in the semifinals before the league championship game.

We’re officially 100 days away from the kickoff of the new United States Football League.

Fans got their first look at the eight teams, which will be divided evenly into a North Division and a South Division. In the North, the USFL will have the Michigan Panthers, New Jersey Generals, Philadelphia Stars and Pittsburgh Maulers.

The Birmingham Stallions, Houston Gamblers, New Orleans Breakers, and Tampa Bay Bandits will comprise the South Division.
