USC QB Mark Sanchez arrested for sexual assault (split and merged)

I don't see a problem with letting him take his final exams. removing him from classes and exams before he's found guilty of anything would be unfair.

Innocent until proven guilty. So far, he's innocent. Let him take his exams and attend class. Petey can keep him from team functions to protect the image of the team. USC needs to protect their image as a fair institute of higher learning by letting a thus far innnocent man attend classes.

I think the special venue serves more to protect the other students. If you put him in a venue, the distraction could cause students to lose focus and perform worse than they might have otherwise.

From the Daily News beat writer, Scott Wolf

So Now We Know What Interim Suspension Means

USC quarterback Mark Sanchez is prohibited from participating in summer football workouts until his sexual-assault case is resolved. That apparently is the penalty from being under ``interim suspension’’ according to the student affairs office.
I’ve already mentioned several times that those close to the investigation believe the case is weak and I suspect the case will be closed soon. So why is Sanchez unable to work out with his teammates?
My university sources offer these reasons: Student affairs needs some cover in case the district attorney actually filed charges and the suspension also addresses the issue of underage drinking, because Sanchez was at an off-campus club the night of the alleged incident.
The fact Sanchez is allowed to attend summer school is offered as an example of the university’s faith that Sanchez would not be charged with a crime.

Some Sanchez Background

A little more information is coming out regarding the circumstances of the sexual-assault arrest of USC quarterback Mark Sanchez. According to several sources, Sanchez and the alleged victim met at his apartment and engaged in some sexual activity but did not have sexual intercourse.
The alleged victim left Sanchez’s apartment and several hours later called her mother and told her what happened, sources said. Her mother then telephoned the police, which led to the eventual arrest.

Wasn;t one of the issues surrounding the MoC academic allegations that he was given an opportunity to retake an exam after walking out in the middle of the initial exam? That certainly smacked of special treatment IIRC.
I really don't think this compares to being allowed to take an exam while 'suspended'. If Sanchez was given the exam twice then the comparison might have been more valid.
Why the separate room? Were they afraid he would assault someone dring the exam?

i know one of the maurice things was alleged oral exams rather than writen exams. (personally i had an oral test when i couldnt make the class one day the prof just meet me the at office hours and i showed i had a solid understanding of the material and was awarded an a- i think.

i highly doubt usc would do anything that would put them in hot water. you would need extensive situations with similar circumstances to prove it either way. with the hot water they were in at the time, im going to go ahead and say they thought it through, but who knows. allowing a kid to take a test when he is *possibly* going to be charged with a crime seems reasonable enough to me. but wait a few more months and this will all shake out.

Well, if he gets off this, he will look back on this one day and realize just how close he came to blowing it.

Spent some time with Mark yesterday. He is the same kid I've known for about 4 years. Not gonna go into details on this and we didn't yesterday. What I will tell you is to expect this to go away AND to expect Mark to come away from this a more cautious young man.
Right now he is just working hard and keeping himself focused on school and preparations away from the team until he is able to rejoin.
I'm actually hoping Grant and Mark can get together some before Grant leaves for school next month. We've got some receivers out here that will be @ Oregon and Colorado next season to work with as well.:wink2:

Once in my time at Ohio State, I took an exam while sitting on a beach in Siesta Key Florida and faxed it back to the prof. Special treatment?

I'll say...what "booster" gave you a trip to Siesta Key Florida? How did the drink boy on said beach get a wire long enough that you could fax your exam while sitting ON A BEACH!?! Scandalous, scandalous...

Yeah he is. I meant to talk to him about THAT. They bonded when they were recruits and so that might be tough one to break up. Hey, Mark does have a little bit of the "tough guy" in him and so he kind of feeds off Brian. Not good really. But it wasn't unusual for Mark to find himself in 'situations of conflict" before he met Brian.
Hopefully he continues to mature and understand that sometimes you must separate yourself from even your best friends to get where you want to go. Or better yet, to keep from going where you DON'T want be.
Seeing him "back home" is probably a good thing though I'm sure it's due, for the most part, to his not being able to be with the team.
